WTF LJ / DW / Happy Holidays

Dec 25, 2011 20:24

As you may know, I haven't been posting since I've been busy the past days. Christmas doesn't help either but I don't mind it all since spending time with the family is so wonderful and brings me a lot of joy.

But first things first, pick the section you wish to read but please the part of LJ and Dreamwidth if you can. If not, come back when you can please to get the idea of why I'm getting sick of LJ and why I'm deciding to move to Dreamwidth when the new design becomes live.

For a couple of minutes, forget about your friends and communities here on LJ.

As a student, and a lurker on a web design forum, I can say that the new design for LJ is shit. It's horrible. It's worse than what my instructor put up on the projector when showing the school's gaming site. The overall design is placed so randomly and tight that it's unbearable. The transition from the top navigation to the main content and to the footer is so uncomfortable that I can't stand looking at it for more than 5 seconds. What really puts me off is his portfolio site here.

That, ladies and gents, is the designer LJ chose to redesign this site. Not to mention he's the head of LJ Russia and he doesn't care for your subject lines nor does he care on what you think since it's "non-negotiable".

There's already posts about how horrible it looks and that's coming from even those who don't know the aspects of web design is, which saying a mega fuck ton.

Look how the designer's portfolio is. Terrible overall design that just makes you want to click out from, yes? That is what you call a "badly designed website". No one will go there and no one will want to stay.

Now see this place to see what a real web design portfolio is. While not everyone may like some of the designs, it's still appealing to look at and not wish to gorge your eyes out over. Plus, they know what the hell they're doing.

Sorry LJ but if you do this, I will take my bags and leave. I for one do not wish to stay in a place that doesn't listen to their users, paying or not.

For more information about the new design or the designer, go here and here.

This comes on to the next section: Dreamwidth. I've had an account with them since June 18, 2009 and what I can say the owners care about the users as much as listen to them. I would go on but I wish for you to see for yourself in any of the new's post to see the huge difference that they have with LJ.

Now, I know that they don't have pretty coding or fandom communities or etc., but neither did LJ in the beginning and that's up to the members. It's just like any community site. Only YOU and OTHERS can do that and I'm willing to be one of them.

So, if you have a DW account for moving or just having one, feel free to add me. I was so happy the user "camy" wasn't taken and I just made a community for my graphics also here. Right now, both of them don't have posts but I'm going to import my posts from here to DW thanks to their importer that can import from LJ and InsaneJournal and just found out that we can crosspost so for those who still wish to stay on LJ (I understand, not everyone has the same tastes and would rather stay and take the change but honestly, I'm sick of LJ), my posts will be crossposted and will link the original post on Dreamwidth.

Right now, I'm looking around Dreamwidth, especially meme's since that usually has friending meme's and sure enough, there is one already just posted yesterday.

Also, you do know that creating an account there now without an invite code? There's also a deal for buying a paid account with extra points (think tokens). Wish I could've gotten the seed account. Damn. One day I will. In the meantime, I'm thinking of getting a paid or premium account soon. Depends on what LJ does.

Enough of that. Time to get into the holiday spirit!

I hope you guys are having a wonderful holidays with your family and of course your friends. I still need to go through my FB and other networks. This year, we spent Christmas in the apartment as much as that has bummed us out. I made cards for my parents, brother, and grandmother since I had nothing to give them.

Turns out, I found that I still had my Magical Erase markers and they still worked! I had so much fun drawing a reindeer, Christmas trees, a fireplace, a monkey (for my bad, our inside joke), presents, and....I think that's it. My mom said it was way better to receive than a card being bought and really made me so happy since I was struggling what to give them and basically spent through so much paper since I kept messing up on them |D

I received a purple plaid pajama pants from my grandmother with new house socks that are also purple. I seriously needed them since, my god, these house shoes are MEAN and won't let me run or even fast walk. Bah!

Next up was junior mints also from my grandmother. To be honest, I didn't mind since, come on, WHO hates mints?! I was giggling with glee 8D

Now for what my parents gave me. They asked me what I wanted and I said "Either Assassin's Creed: Revelations or Nook." To be entirely honest, I thought I was going to get the game since Nook is, ffff, expensive but my parents got me Nook Color. I was so HAPPY and I couldn't express how much since I didn't know how to react but I did hug my parents so much but mostly my dad since he and I are closer than any other family member. We're buddies, we pick on mom all the time, and he's been such a great support for me the past months.

He said that since I worked so hard and did my best (which reminds me, two A's and two B's were my semester grades! :D) that they wanted to get me something that was lighter and could use the extra features especially if we can get the textbooks and they can be in color since I'm in design classes.

I've known that Christmas isn't about presents, it's about spending time with your family and having loads of fun in the process even if there are differences like me being on the computer a lot while they're on the TV a lot, haha.

Now it's off to get desert. Almost forgot dad made homemade gingerbread cookies, our family's tradition!

misc: peeves, misc: wtf, misc: rant, site: dreamwidth, life: holiday, misc: nooooooo!
