Shit I didn't need to read before bed:

In a study published last spring, Michael Frates from the University of Akron examined tornadoes rated F3 to F5 with tracks of 20 miles or longer from 1950-2006. (Note...this was before the Enhanced-Fujita scale was implemented).

Perhaps surprisingly, when taking these strong, long-track tornadoes into account, Frates found "Dixie Alley" actually beat out the Plains "Tornado Alley".

One other danger to "Dixie Alley" is the tendency for nighttime tornadoes. A study by Ashley, Krmenec, and Schwantes (2008) found overnight tornadoes are 2.5 times as likely to kill as those during the day.

With that in mind, the pattern is shaping up for a possible severe weather outbreak in parts of "Dixie Alley" this week. Let's examine the setup.

Geez. Bring on the dinosaurs and tidal waves while you're piling on the nightmare fuel, why don't you.
