Character Information
Name: Rayann Charlotte Landon (called Raye)
LJ Username:
rayelandonHouse: Former Ravenclaw
Year: salesperson at Whizzhard Books in Diagon Alley where she stocks books, waits on customers, etc. She wants to be a writer and is currently pursuing that goal while she works the bookshop to pay the bills.
Age: 24
Birthdate: June 20, putting her as a Gemini on the cusp of Cancer.
Zodiac Sign / Description: Gemini
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac. Positive traits include quick wits, versatility, flexibility, fluency with words and ideas, an open mind, a love of learning, adaptability, agility, sharp perception, and cheerfulness; negative traits are duplicity, mood swings, flightiness, nervousness, fidgeting, lack of attention span, a tendency to be easily influenced, and undependability.
Ravenclaw Geminis are geniuses of communication. They debate ideas, write brilliant treatises, teach exciting classes, read large numbers of books on a regular basis, and study arcane languages. Because Mercury the planet is associated with the alchemical substance of quicksilver, the god Hermes (the messenger of the gods, and the conductor or dead souls to the Underworld), and the historical founder of alchemy, Hermes Trismagistus, many Ravenclaw Geminis also excel at the study of alchemy. These Ravenclaws are some of the best and most brilliant of their class, but they need to learn to finish the projects they start, and to differentiate between what is viable and what is best left as a "really great idea."

Personal History:
Raye grew up in a family of snobbish purebloods. Even as a child, she never quite embraced their attitudes as well as her parents would have liked and it only got "worse" once she left for Hogwarts. Raye made friends with an assortment of classmates, many of whom her family did not approve of in the least and by the time she entered her third year, she'd fully embraced the idea that blood didn't have anything to do with worth.
In her sixth year, Raye's cousin Natalie came to Hogwarts and Raye adored her almost instantly. She immediately felt the need to watch out for her and teach her everything she knew about Hogwarts, especially since the girls really never knew each other before school. Raye's parents had a tendency to ignore the existence of the "less desirable" branches of the family tree and until Raye had researched her family on her own, she was barely aware she had such relations.
Upon leaving Hogwarts, Raye started to pursue her dream to be a writer, but the problem was that a fledgeling novelist couldn't exactly live off of her dreams, so she found a job as a clerk in one of the Diagon Alley shops. The bookshop seemed a natural choice, given her hopeful profession.
Personality:
Raye has never been your typical Ravenclaw, at least not at first glance. She's got a natural insatiable curiosity, though, that made her a good fit as a child. Raye wants to know about absolutely everything and she might have made a decent reporter if she cared more about things like fact. Raye, however, lives with her head in the clouds. She's an idealist. She sees the world as it should be rather than as it is. This is probably the reason that she loves her family, despite disagreeing with their political views.
Raye is not easily discouraged when she wants something. She might not be the most practical person and sometimes she pursues things in futility, but she doesn't give up and she's not afraid to go after the things she wants in life.
Unlike most of her family, Raye could care less about bloodlines. She's friendly to anyone who is friendly to her and often, even, to those who are not. She's capable of a fair amount of snark when provoked, and she can be quite moody about certain things, but when it comes to people, she doesn't hold grudges or think badly of many.
Physical Description: 5'8, 155 lbs, long medium brown hair and grey eyes. She had a confident and flirtatious air about her, a friendly smile or inquisitive smirk almost always present on her face. Her style of dress is casual and sometimes mismatched. Raye's a bit of a scatterbrain and sometimes that means she's not really paying attention when she dresses in the mornings.
Preferred Body Model: Erica Durance
Hobbies and talents:
Writing, obviously. Raye has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember.
Reading. Raye has a strong appreciation of literature of all kinds.
Weaknesses:
Attention span of a gnat. Seriously. Raye can be a bit flakey. It's not that she means to disappoint people. She just has an exceedingly short attention span. She's usually working on a million projects at once and she makes promises that she's later unable to keep, because she's promised conflicting things to more than one person.
Unpredictable/Mood swings. She's all over the place mentally and you never know from one moment to the next what might set her off into a good rant or lead to her next wildly inappopriate obsession.
She has no sense of reality. It's an odd trait for a Ravenclaw, but Raye is so focused on her dreams that sometimes she fails to differentiate between the possible and unlikely. It took running out of money for essentials like food to show her she needed an actual job after school.
She has no focus, either. She might be a successful author by now, except she keeps starting new projects and never finishes any of them, so she's yet to put together anything worth submitting to a publisher.

Patronus: Woodpecker (change, persistence). I had a hard time finding an animal to fit Raye really well, but one thing that does suit her is change. She hates when things just remain the same and I think an animal that symbolizes her love of change would empower her.
What would your character smell if they sniffed Amortentia? Apple Blossoms (which actually can symbolize new ventures.)
Do you think your character is capable of successfully employing a Cruiciatus Curse? Why or why not? Nah. I don't think Raye is capable of that kind of rage. Maybe if something happened to someone she really cared about.
Describe how your character would react, in the form of a sample RP, if faced with a Dementor.
Focus, Raye, focus.
If there was anything Raye Landon wasn't very good at, it was staying focused on any one thing for too long. Her mind wandered, almost of it's own volition. and right now it was especially bad.
She could feel every always thought and feeling she had ever had just creeping up on her, crawling over her skin, trying to suffocate her. And she hated it. Raye wasn't supposed to feel these things. She was happy and carefree and nothing ever got her down. Nothing.
And there was no way she was dying like this. Or whatever those things did. Maybe she should have paid a little more attention in DADA. Anyway, the point was that this horrid feeling wasn't going to be the last thing Raye ever knew, so she summoned up every last bit of strength left in her and made herself focus.
Right, happy thoughts. She thought first of the day she'd met Natalie, even if the girl hadn't been that receptive to her. And little moments after that when she'd caught a glimpse of who the girl was. Those tiny little moments when she thought she might actually let her in one day.
It didn't matter if she was wrong about that and it might not seem like much to anyone else, but her cousin meant a lot to Raye and they were enough, those memories. She shouted out the incantation, her voice strong and clear, barely stopping to watch the tiny white woodpecker chase after the thing before she turned and ran as fast as her legs would carry her.
Alignment: Neutral. Raye was raised amongst a whole family of pureblood elitists, but she's never quite bought into the attitude 100%, especially once she got to Hogwarts and saw that the Muggleborns could be just as good as she was. She's not adamantly for either side, but she's probably leaning more to the good than anything.
