Summary: Ueda Kana is an extremely shy and timid girl. Her problem is that she can't say what she thinks. And that's what makes her aloof in her school. In her first day of her sophomore year, she stumbles on a guy, Tsuchiya Ken, who she thought at first was cool in appearance but was actually a cold person. Nevertheless, this guy actually holds a deep and dark secret that no one dares to know. And the heroine, accidentally, unveiled it. As they keep each others' company, they start to feel a tingly feeling for each other.

“Kana~ Kana!!!” I heard a deep voice from afar. That person who was beckoning me ran towards me and suddenly held my hand.

This hand that I’m holding, it’s very warm. I thought to myself.

We walked together in this soft sand. The breeze was breathtaking. We sat side-by-side looking at the most beautiful sunset. I took a glance at the person who is right beside me.

Chotto matte! This person, who happens to be beside me, is a boy?

“What happened, Kana?”

And he called me Kana so casually!!

After a few seconds, I responded. “Oh, it’s nothing.”

He clenched my hands softly and said, “I hope we can stay like this forever.”

WHAT IS HE SAYING?!!! I don’t know him at all and he says all these things.

He leaned towards me very slowly. He held my hand so tight that I couldn’t move. My heart was beating very fast. His face is so close! I could smell his breath. Our lips were centimeters apart.

Suddenly, his phone ringed.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*

I looked at the boy. He didn’t pick up his phone. His phone continued to ring.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*

I moved away from him when suddenly, I heard a thud. My body was in so much pain and I realized that I was on the floor in my pajamas.

*sigh* It was just a dream, huh.

I tried to go back to sleep, hoping that the dream I had will continue.

Normal POV
There was a knock on the door.

“Kana-chan, are you awake?”

The sleeping Kana moaned.

The woman in casual clothes entered the room.

“MOUUU!!! Today’s your first day as a sophomore and you’re slacking off. At least be excited for today.” She pouted.

“Okaa-san, please stop that pouting face!” She covered her face with her hands, trying to avoid her mother’s presence. But her mother pouted even more.

She peeked at her mother, only to be unsurprised that she was pouting. She sighed and said lazily, “Hai hai, I’m moving already.” She stood up and stretched her arms.

Kana’s POV
I don’t wanna go to school. It’s too tiresome. But think about it Kana, a brand new day, new classmates, a new teacher, new life. But it’s the same old school. Can’t help it.

Normal POV
“Ittekimasu!” I exclaimed as I bid my mother goodbye.

“Matte!!!” My mother exclaimed as she hurriedly puts on her working shoes. “I’m coming with you.”

*sweatdrop* “Hai hai,” she nodded as they walked together to the train station.

While they were at the station, Kana was waiting for the train with her clingy mother. Her mother has continuously been asking questions on what she will do on her first day of her sophomore life. IT WAS NEVER ENDING.

Yatta! The train arrived and they immediately grabbed a seat. After a few minutes, the train was fully packed and the door was about to close. Suddenly, a school bag blocked the door from closing. The door opened again and the person calmly walked inside.

She took a glance of that person. He was a boy. And it seems that he goes to the same school as her. It was evident by the logo in his uniform.

Kana’s POV
Areeeeee?? He’s wearing a red tie. He must be in the same year as I am. I hope that I could be friends with him.

Normal POV
Kana was searching more of his appearance. She found out that she wore a blue baller in his left hand.

Kana’s POV
Why would he wear a baller? Is it for style? Well, it kinda suits him. Though I can’t see his face because of his silky but shabby that covers his eyes. I can hear him breathing heavily despite the distance. It must be because of the running and rushing like he’s competing in a race. Does he really live that far? Or maybe he was just lazy enough to forget the time of the train to travel.

Unknown boy’s POV
That girl keeps on staring at me. I can feel it. Is my hair really that annoying and too shabby? I hope that I’m not in the same class as her.

Normal POV
“Next stop is Tokyo-shi. All passengers please prepare for unloading.” An announcement was reported in a speaker.

It was almost their stop and Kana started preparing her things. After packing, she looked at the boy she stared at a while ago. The boy was already ready 5 minutes ago. He kept his earphones and waited at the door.

“We are now at Tokyo-shi stop. The door is now opening.” The announcement was heard all over the train. The train doors opened and the passengers were starting to leave.

Kana stood up, looked around and whispered to her mother, “Okaa-san, I’m leaving.” She then hurriedly ran outside and took one glance at her mother.

“Ah! Goodbye my beloved musume. Kiotsukete ne. Have fu-----” She stood and waved at her, but the doors were closing before she could even finish what she said.

She faced all about the exit to the station and started walking towards the school.

Kana’s POV
I must have been mistaken but I’m sure I felt an eerie presence right when I was leaving the train. Aish! Forget it. Let’s just go to school. But I don’t know how to get there since going to school was like months ago. Maybe I should just follow that boy. We are from the same school anyways.

Normal POV
Kana continued tailing the boy with the blue baller. The boy put his right hand in his pocket and his bag was over his shoulder. She just focused on following the boy. They were about 10 meters away when they were near the school. Kana looked up and was amazed at how big the school is.

Kana’s POV
Wowwww!!! It feels like this is the first time that I saw the school this big.

Normal POV
*flash* A light was flashed from somewhere near the two students. Kana looked around to see if a suspicious person was just around the place.

She said softly, “Aree? Where did that light come from? If I could remember it clearly, it came from here.” She walked towards the bush that was suspiciously moving. She rummaged the bushes only to find NOTHING. She turned around to continue following the boy.

Kana’s POV
TAAAIIIHEEENNN DESSSUUU!!! Where’s the boy? Am I lost? GAAAHHH! Doushiyo?

Normal POV
Kana was walking in circles trying to find out the location of their school. She looked towards the sky and saw the huge building which was surprisingly her school.

“Yokatta ne~ I made it just in time.” She whispered to herself.

Kana’s POV
But I lost track of that boy. *sigh* Maybe we aren’t classmates at all. And maybe we won’t see each other ever again.

Normal POV
“Oooh! We’re classmates!”

“Ehhh~ I’m in 3-C.”

“Let me see!”

“Yatta! We’re in the same class again!”

Kana stood before a crowd of people, wondering what the ruckus was about.

“So they were talking about the class lists. I wish my classmates are friendly with me. *sigh*” She said to herself in a little voice.

“Why are you slacking, Kana-chan?”

Ms. XXXX patted on Kana’s shoulder and released a cheerful aura. When Kana turned around to see who that girl was, it was her best friend, Riko.

“Riko!” Kana exclaimed with little volume.

“Hihihihihi, have you found your class, Kana-chan?”

She looked down and replied, “Uhhhh………….. iie.”

*sweatdrop* “It’s so just like you, Kana-chan. Daijoubu daijoubu! I’ll look for your name in the lists!” She held out her peace sign and grinned widely.

She dove into the crowd trying to make her way. “EXCUSE ME! Sumimasen! Coming through!”

Seconds later, she was in front of me.

‘Hayai,’ Kana thought to herself.

She looked at her and she wore this frown and said, “Kana-chan, I’m sorry.”

Kana’s POV
What’s with that look, Riko-chan? Are you telling me that we aren’t classmates for this year? Why now?

Normal POV
“Gomen ne, Kana-chan, actually, you’re in Class 2-A.” A tear fell from her cheeks.

‘It’s the end of my world….!!! huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu’ Kana thought.

“Riko-chan, what class are you in?”

“Class 2-A. UWAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! *cries*”
Kana hugged her as they cried together.

‘Those good times that we spent together. Why should we part now? I thought we were inseparable. Chotto matte.’ Kana thought.

“USOTSUKI RIKO-CHAN!!!” She smacked her head as she shouted.

“You know I can’t live without you.” Little teardrops were forming in her eyes.

“You must be exaggerating, Kana-chan. ” Riko smiled widely.

*ding~ ding~ ding~ DONG~*

“That’s the bell! Ikiyou, Kana-chan!”

“Hnnn!” She nodded.

*****
“Oi, Tanaka-san, isashiburi!”

“Eehh? Do I know you?”

“*sweatdrop* Please remember this face!”

Kana’s POV
*sigh* Ii nee? They have friends. Unlike me. I’ll never have the courage to say a word to anybody in this school except Riko.

Normal POV
Kana switched her outdoor shoes with her indoor shoes in the locker.

*stomp stomp stomp stomp stomp stomp*

She heard footsteps from afar. She didn’t dare to look back.

*stomp stomp stomp stomp stomp*

The footsteps were getting louder.

“Kana-chan! I can’t wait for the homeroom. Hayaku hayaku!”

“Bikkurishita Riko-chan! I thought it was somebody else.”

Kana and Riko walked in the hallway. Kana was feeling nervous.

Kana’s POV
Why are they staring at us? Yeah, I always know that my best friend is very famous in this institution but it’s a different feel this time. Is it because somebody will confess to her this month? Speaking of Riko, how did she become friends with me? I’m a low-level and anti-social person. Let’s just continue walking.

Normal POV
“Daijoubu desu ka, Kana-chan?” She said as she walked swinging her hands.

Kana nodded and looked down.

Kana’s POV
Avoid eye contact! Avoid eye contact! These students staring at us may be handsome and beautiful but they are scary! Just like before!

Normal POV
Riko opened the door to Class 2-A.

“Ohayou minna!”

“Riko-chan, ohayou!”

“Yokatta ne~! We’re in the same class again.”

“Areee? Riko-chan, who’s that girl behind you?”

Kana flinched. She thought that hiding at Riko’s back would make her unnoticed. Riko looked at Kana and gave a ‘this-is-your-chance-to-make-new-friends’ look. Kana backed off a bit and thought, ‘I didn’t build up my courage yet! Isn’t this too early Riko-chan?’

“Oi. Watch where you’re blocking.” A cold voice freaked out the hell out of Kana.

“Gomen,” she apologized to him softly.

The boy who just arrived made his way to the seat nearest the window.

’That guy seems very familiar. But I just don’t know it.’ Kana thought.

“Minna! Please go back to your seats.” Our sensei said as she clapped her hands.

“Ah! Sensei! How was your vacation?”

“Oh right! Tell us! Tell us!”

“Don’t make us wait, sensei.”

“Did you get a boyfriend?”

“Maaa~ If you really want to hear it…”

Everyone was all ears.

“THEN GO BACK TO YOUR DAMN SEATS!!!”

“Waaaa, sensei kowaii yoooo~”

“Oooo, SENSEI IS BACK TO HER YANKEE SELF.”

“URUSAAIIII !”

Everyone: *sweatdrop*

Everyone scrambled back to their seats.

“Saa, today we will have our self-introductions and after that, we will have the official seating arrangement for the whole semester.”

‘Woww, sensei is so bipolar.’ Student A thought.

“That’s a good idea. I don’t like MY SEATMATE here!”

“SOU DA YOOOO!”

Kana’s POV
Somehow, everyone agrees to this. Except me. I want to decline but I couldn’t. I’m awfully shy. I don’t wanna be with anybody else except Riko.

Normal POV
“Saaa, let’s start with the person in my left.”

“Haiii!”

While everyone was busy staring their introductions, Kana was shaking her feet, panicking because she doesn’t know what to do.

“Next is Tamura-san.”
“Haiii!!!” The genki girl right in front of Kana responded.

‘I-i-i-I’m next?!!! D-d-d-doushiyo??!!!’ Kana thought.

“Hai. Arigatou gozaimasu, Tamura-san. Next is Ueda-san.”

Riko was cheered for Kana that it made her so embarrassed. She slowly stood up from her seat. She got cold feet and walked like a stiff stick. When she reached the teacher’s table, unknowingly, she hid under it. Sensei grabbed her hand and gave her a gentle smile. She probably didn’t see her shaking legs.

‘Ohmigosh, this sickness is starting all over again.’ Kana thought.

“M-m-m-m-m-mi-n-n-na… K-k-k-koni-ni-ch-chi-wa. U-u-ue-e-d-da K-k-ka-n-naa d-d-des-su.”

The students in the room started to cheer for her.

“Gambatte, Ueda-san!”

“Oi! You can do it!” Another classmate shouted.

Kana looked at the rude boy who took the back seat near the window. That boy suddenly smiled like he was saying, ‘Good luck.’

She was getting pumped up after all the cheering.

“Ha-hai. W-watashi ha m-momoiro to k-kawaii to i-ichigo ga suki. [I love pink, cute, and strawberries.] I-i-I hope to make new friends this year. Y-yo-yoroshiku onegaishimasu!” She bowed as she finished her introduction.

*flash*

‘There’s that flash again. Where did that come from?’ Kana thought.

She looked at her classmates but she thinks that they are not that suspicious. ‘Never mind. Let’s forget it.’

She returned back to her seat when suddenly, Riko held her hands and happily said, “I’m so happy for you, Kana-chan. That was a successful introduction after a long time.”

“Uhnn!” She nodded as tears of joy flowed out from her teary eyes.

“I could still remember during the first time we were classmates. I guess that was first year in elementary. You were so confident during the introductions that I was inspired to do my best. But time after time, you started being aloof and you avoided groups of friends.”

‘Riko-chan, hazukashii yo! Please stop it.’

“And so---“ Riko continued but Kana gripped her hand tightly and covered her mouth. It is very awkward for her to hear such embarrassing stuffs about the past.

“Riko-chan, please stop.” Kana said in a low voice.

“Ah! Gomen ne, Kana-chan. I’m just too proud that you did well a while ago. I never thought this day would come! What made you say all this, Kana-chan?”

‘Riko-chan, you sound like a mother.’ Student B thought.

During their conversation, footsteps were heard heading towards their way.

“/sarcasm Yamamoto-san, there’s still a whole day to chitchat with Ueda-san, so please keep quiet, okay?” She sternly told Riko in her face.

“H-hai! This won’t happen again, sensei.” Riko’s voice tuned down slightly.

“Good! *turns at others* Hai hai, let’s continue!”

“Haiii.”

After a few minutes, the introduction was nearly over.

“The last but not the least, Tsuchiya-kun.”

The boy who sat near the window stood up and put his hands in his pockets. He gave everybody a cold stare. When he walked down the aisle, everyone seemed quiet.

“Tsuchiya Ren desu…”

He held a long pause. He looked at Kana and smirked at her.

Kana’s POV
How dare he to smirk? What did I do to him really? He has this shabby hair that is similar to the boy I met today in the train. And his face couldn’t be seen because of his long hair. And he wears this blue baller in his left …… hand…… OH NOOOOO!!!!

Normal POV
“Yoroshiku.” He finished coldly. He went back to his seat and pretended like nothing happened.

Kana was frozen when she recalled that Tsuchiya Ken.

Kana’s POV
OHHH NOOOOOO!!!! HE’S THAT SAME BOY WHO RODE THE SAME TRAIN AS MEE!!! AND HE’S THIS EVIL???!!! *sigh* I might regret thinking that I would like to be friends with him. He was so cool at first, with his hair and style and all, but he’s a bad guy?!

Ken’s POV
That’s right. This girl seems familiar. I have this feeling that she’s the one who’s been staring at me the entire time in the train. And I’m in the same class as her. Well, better avoid her or I might get into trouble again.

Normal POV
Sensei began to announce their new seating arrangements.

“Minna! We’re going to decide where you’ll sit by drawing lots. Yehe~eyyy!!”

“Ughh, yey.” The students chorused in sarcasm.

“Okay, please get a piece of paper from this box and the number written will decide where you’ll permanently sit for the whole semester.

‘Doushiyo!? If this happens, then there might be a chance for me not to be seated next to Riko-chan.’ Kana thought.

One by one, the students started picking the papers from the lottery box.

Kana’s POV
Kami-sama, if ever I don’t get to sit beside my Riko-chan, then please don’t let me sit beside that rude and evil guy named Tsuchiya Ken. Oh please not him!! Not him!!

Normal POV
“Ueda-san, you’re next!”

“H-h-hai!”

Kana proceeded to the lottery box and closed her eyes as she wished for that very event to never happen.

As she opened her eyes, she hurriedly unfolded her paper.

‘Number 31,’ she mentally read her number.

She searched for the location of her new seat. Unfortunately, it was……………………… Mr. Rude and Arrogant Boy’s seat.

‘Gahhh.. THIS IS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE!!’ she silently screamed in her thoughts.

Kana went back to her seat and got her lightweight school bag. She walked in misery as she thought that sitting at your most hateful person’s chair is like the end of her life. When she approached her new and unlucky seat, Tsuchiya-kun crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows.

“*scoffs* So you get to sit here huh? Well, I’m out.” He smirked as he moved out of the chair. “Unlucky you,” he said in a low but distinct voice.

Kana’s POV
What did he just say???!!! He’s already Mr. Rude and Annoying and he has the guts to be Mr. Sharp-tongue to me? Maybe he wants a death wish right here, right now.

Normal POV
In a jiffy, Kana gave her feet a rest. Today is a tiring day for her.

“Next! Tsuchiya-kun, please pick.” Sensei announced.

“Hmp.” He commented as he went to the lottery box.

Kana watched him unfolding his paper. His eyes widened as he peeked at his pick.

‘Please, gods of the heaven and earth! Please let his number be anything but 32.’

Sensei looked at his paper from the back and said, “Areee? So you’re 32. Okay okay! You get to sit beside Ueda-san.”

When sensei uttered those very words, her jaw dropped real low.

‘Kami-sama, why didn’t you hear my invocations? I would do anything for you! Just please change it! Doushiteeeeee????’

She slapped and pinched and stretched her cheeks to see if it was real. And the result?
IT ………………… WAS ……………………………… REAL!!!!

“This is going to be the end of my world.” She whispered softly to herself.

“Ugghh, of all people why you?” Tsuchiya complained as he sat on his chair. Suddenly, he stared at Kana for no reason at all.

‘I’m getting the feeling that he doesn’t like me one bit.’ Kana guessed

Kana’s POV
Oh no, can I really have this person who dislikes me as my seatmate for the whole semester? *looking at the window*

The leaves of the cherry blossoms started to fall. This is the fresh start of spring 20XX.

This is the start of a blossoming love.
