Seeking Serenity ~ Atlantis
Destruction
Mistress 3 looked down on the unconscious and bleeding senshi with a smirk. "Is that it?" she asked sounding a bit disappointed. "I had hoped for more of a diversion."
Sailor Mars fought against her weak, trembling body and attempted to rise once more. She managed to lift her torso off the ground before her arms gave away and she collapsed again.
Sailor Jupiter opened one swollen eye. It glinted with green fire as she raised her bleeding hands once more to the heavy rock that pinned her to the floor. Panting with exertion, she tried to push it off.
Sailor Venus spat the hair out of her mouth, its golden shine muted with blood, and clenched her fists. By sheer force of will, she pushed herself back up onto her knees, but could rise no further.
Although she had arrived last, Sailor Mercury was in just as bad a shape as her allies. Unlike them, however, she made no attempt to rise. She just watched the enemy with cold, calculating blue eyes and waited for some unknown signal.
"Hmph. Well, if you cannot amuse me any longer I guess I will have to put you to another use." Mistress 3 snapped her fingers and the ground under them rumbled. One of the temple foundation stones pushed its way through the rubble and into the open air. The senshi's eyes widened as they felt themselves pulled towards the rock. "Give your remaining energy to Master Pharaoh 90," the woman continued with an evil smile.
A large, yellow ball of power suddenly ripped its way towards her. Mistress 3 screeched in surprise, raised her hand to protect her face, and let the power push her floating body back and to the side. The four wounded senshi screamed breathlessly as their bruised and battered bodies fell to the rubble once more.
"Who's there?" Mistress 3 called as the dust of the explosion drifted down towards the ground again. She glared into the dim shadows under the broken pillars seeking her attacker.
The dust began to stir once more, spinning and whirling like a miniature dust devil as it raced towards the most fractured of the pillars. "Awakened from slumber, I seek the evil that disturbed my rest. Of the Heavenly Planet of the Skies, I am Sailor Uranus!" a strong alto voice called.
Mistress 3 snorted at the dramatics and narrowed her eyes. Two shining silhouettes were now visible against the dark dust cloud.
"Likewise awakened and seeking, of the Mysterious Planet of the Seas, I am Sailor Neptune!" a soprano voice called out.
"Neptune...?" Sailor Mercury mumbled as she painfully turned her head to see their help. Her heart chilled although she could not remember why. "Poseidon's..."
"We will not allow this invasion to continue any further," Sailor Uranus called out as the dust cloud finally faded and she became visible.
Mistress 3 snorted derisively again. "I, too, can play with wind," she sneered as she gestured. The dust around her stirred itself up once more. "See? You're powers don't impress me." She flattened her hand and pushed it to the ground. Instantly, the dust settled.
Sailor Uranus tightened her grip on her Space Sword and glared at the woman. "I have more tricks than that," she growled. "Space Sword... Blaster!" As she cried out the attack, she rushed forward with the blade held low and then swept it up to her shoulder. As she lifted the blade, she turned slightly to add some twist to the blow.
Mistress 3 frowned when she felt her shields buckle slightly under the blow. This was unanticipated.
"Deep Submerge!" Sailor Neptune called out, spinning around and throwing a turquoise ball of light towards the distracted enemy. Her eyes widened as it bounced harmlessly off the shields and reflected back into one of the few remaining temple pillars.
"No!" Sailor Mercury cried out, suddenly remembering why Sailor Neptune's appearance worried her. "Not that... We... We have to hold the power in!" Painfully, she worked her way up to her knees and looked over to Sailor Venus. "We... If we don't... The city..."
Driven by the urgency in her pain filled voice, her teammates forced themselves up as well. They looked at her expectantly for the next move, and she didn't keep them waiting.
"Mercury Power!" she cried, holding her arms and hands up and out as much as she could. Although her body was battered, her spirit was still strong. Two walls of blue light sped from her hands.
Sailor Jupiter nodded, and began to crawl her way around the ongoing battle. "Mars Power!" she heard her friend call. She felt more than saw the red walls of light that sped out in response.
A nearby burst of power and dust made her duck her head, but she did not stop. "Venus Power!" Sailor Venus cried from somewhere behind her. A golden wall of light stopped another stray blast just before it reached her.
"No! What are you doing?" Mistress 3 yelled angrily. "You cannot block my power! My Master still needs the beacon!" She twisted her head around, looking for the last of the building blocks for the wall and spied Sailor Jupiter creeping along. "You will not stop me," she growled as she threw a blast directly at the brown haired senshi.
Sailor Uranus leapt in front of the energy, holding up her Space Sword. As Sailor Jupiter continued to ignore everything around her, Sailor Uranus used her Talisman to direct the energy back towards its caster. Mistress 3 dodged it, only to run into a blast from Sailor Neptune. She screamed in pain and fury, and threw a blast at the green haired senshi.
The fight raged on, the expected tremors from the blasts masking the much larger tremors that the rest of the city experienced. Unseen and unheard far below, the populace cried out in fear and cowered in doorways, under tables, and in closets. Some ran panicking into the streets. Large crevasses appeared, toppling buildings and swallowing minor temples. Cisterns broke, flooding the streets and buildings with water. Animals broke free of their pens and stampeded towards any sign of an open area. People prayed and begged for Poseidon to spare their city and their lives. And any who happened to catch a glimpse of the mountain where the Great Temple had once stood knew that a fierce battle was being waged between good and evil.
Finally, Sailor Jupiter reached her spot. "Jupiter Power!" she cried as she sat down and held her hands out to her sides. Instantly, green walls of light flew to meet the gold and red. When the energies meshed, the entire wall suddenly flared white hot.
"No! You cannot stop me! I must raise the beacon!" the infuriated enemy roared. Her flesh ripped apart, revealing the humanoid shaped Daimon underneath. "I will raise the beacon! And when my Master arrives, I will become the greatest of the Mistresses!"
Sailor Uranus and her partner exchanged glances, and then nods. "We will never allow it, Invader," Sailor Uranus said as she looked around for the highest point. Ironically, the foundation stone that Mistress 3 had pulled up from under the rubble stood the tallest. Nimbly, Sailor Uranus hopped over to it and then up to its peak.
Meanwhile, Sailor Neptune looked for the lowest possible spot. Mistress 3 began to mumble and keen in what appeared to be her native language. As Sailor Neptune slid down into the nearest hole, the Daimon was suddenly engulfed by a black light. The column of energy blew away the rubble under its feet, and the shrapnel peppered the four meditating senshi.
"Hold!" Sailor Uranus called urgently as they wavered, shocked out of their trances. "Hold tight!" she ordered again as she raised her Space Sword Talisman.
Far below, Sailor Neptune raised her Aqua Mirror Talisman and tilted it towards the barely visible moon. "Neptune Power!" she cried. Instead of coming out of her hands or the Mirror, the indigo colored power surged out from her feet. It formed a base for the partial cube that the four younger senshi had created. At every point where it touched their power, it burned incandescently white.
Sailor Uranus also aimed her Talisman towards the moon. "Uranus Power!" Her yellow colored energy burst from the point of her sword and sped towards the cube of power, forming its top. Mistress 3 howled in fury as she was cut off on all sides. As the last of the cube slid into place, the whole thing incandesced.
For a long moment, they held the cube, and then they began to shrink it in towards their helpless prisoner.
"No!" Mistress 3 howled. "I will be the greatest of Mistresses! You cannot defeat me! You cannot! You ca..." Her rant became a scream as the walls touched her skin. Minutes later, she was gone.
The senshi collapsed in exhaustion. "We... We did it," Prostasia said quietly. Her voice sounded disbelieving.
"She's really gone..." Pathos replied sounding relieved.
"What is that sound?" Kalloni asked a few moments later as the sound of a deep rumbling reached her ears.
"Just the sea," the woman who was Sailor Neptune murmured in response.
"So far inland?" Sofia asked sleepily curious. "I never thought you could hear it here."
"Must be 'cause it's so quiet," Kalloni replied softly. She felt as if she were drifting on the sound as she closed her pale blue eyes.
"And we're so high up," the woman who was Sailor Uranus agreed. "Sound carries in the heights." She, too, closed her eyes.
And as the tsunami roared over the broken land, washing away its building and remaining people, the light of the moon caressed the six warriors like a blessing. This cycle had ended. Perhaps in the next they would find their Serenity.
Okay, that could probably use some help...
