Finally, a Shingo story. I was beginning to wonder if he was mad at me for killing him off in Lost Hero, hahaha...

Unbearable Happiness

Shingo watched as his older sister descended the stairs. 'She's smiling again,' he thought to himself uneasily. 'All she does is smile these days. Surely she can't be that happy...'

His eyes narrowed slightly as he tried to think of a good explanation for his sister's recent behavior. She had had a boyfriend for a short while, he knew. Or, so she had claimed, and their mother had seemed to believe her. But, whoever he was, he was not around any more. Her grades weren't any better, despite her being friends with a certified genius. Shingo could not think of a single reason for his sister to look so happy all of the time.

She caught sight of him, and he almost winced as her smile grew wider. "Shin-go-kun!" she warbled at him as she bounced down the last few stairs. "How was school?"

"It was okay," he mumbled as he glanced away from her.

"Do you need any help with your homework?" she asked curiously.

"Not from you, baka," he replied with a little bite in his voice. He hoped that his response would break the smile and make her return to normal, but it only grew wider instead. "I did it all already," he sighed in defeat.

"Oh. Well, you wanna play a game? Mako-chan let me borrow the new Kingdom Hearts game. She says it's really good!"

"Yeah, maybe in a few minutes," he replied as he hefted his book bag up. Usagi took the hint and stepped off of the stairs to let him by. When he reached the top of the staircase, he paused and looked back. Usagi was walking towards the kitchen, calling for their mother in that irritatingly cheerful voice and begging for snacks. Slowly, he continued towards his room.

"Oh!" a feminine voice exclaimed. He stared at the strange little girl with the yellow miniskirt and purple hair who had just come out of Usagi's room. He had been seeing her around the house at the oddest of times lately. "I'm visiting Usagi-chan," she said as she turned her nose up slightly and hurried towards the stairs. "Yes, Usagi-chan."

"Oy!" he called suddenly. She froze, and then slowly turned to look at him with wide brown eyes. "I want my sister back," he heard himself say softly. He knew that the little girl had something to do with this strangeness, and he willed her to tell him what to do to make it right again.

Her face gentled as a sad expression came across it. "We all do," she said just as softly. "But it's for the best... Really."

They stared at each other for a few moments longer before Shingo jerked around and opened his bedroom door. As it shut softly behind him, he threw his book bag towards his bed. "I want my baka onee-chan back," he whispered as he fought back the tears.
