More Girl Trouble
Mamoru rubbed at the painful spot on the top of his head as he looked around. The large blue ball rolling on the floor a short distance away gave him a clue to what had hit him, but he couldn’t see the child that had so carelessly thrown it. As he was standing up to get a better look around, something else fell through the pink cloud floating unseen over his head.
“Aaaa!” the little girl screamed when she saw how high above the ground she was. Instinctively, she reached for the tall, dark haired man below her. She wrapped her arms desperately around his neck as her body slammed into his back.
“Urk!” Mamoru exclaimed as something shoved him forward and tried to choke him at the same time. He stepped forward, caught himself, and then straightened up and turned around. “Urggg… Le’ go…” he choked as the arms around his neck squeezed tighter. He reached up and scrabbled at them for a moment, then instinctively reached one arm around to support the thing on his back. Immediately, the arms loosened a little.
Carefully, he drew the child around until she was in front of him. Startled cinnamon pink eyes stared into wide blue for a long moment, and then the little girl spoke. “Papa?”
“Papa? Papa?” two voices chorused from their left. Mamoru and the little girl turned to look at the two blondes who had stopped beside them. The girl’s eyes got wider and she began to gasp and shake.
“Mamoru, what is this?” his mother asked as she turned her narrowed gaze from the pink haired child to him. “You have a child? And you never told me?”
“Mamo-chan?” Usagi asked, her eyes confused. “Who’s that?”
“Ma… ma… ma… Mama!” ChibiUsa finally managed to blurt out. She wriggled fiercely in her father’s grasp, ignoring his gasp as he almost dropped her. “Mama! Mama!” Afraid for her safety, Mamoru quickly put her down. “Mama!!” she cried, tears streaming down her face, as she ran and wrapped her arms around Usagi’s legs.
“Mama?” Maria Chiba said weakly.
“Eh?” Usagi said simultaneously in confusion. “Did you loose your mother?”
“You and Usagi-chan… have a child…?”
“Eh?!” Mamoru and Usagi chorused as they jerked their heads up and stared at Maria in shock.
“You’re both so young… I can't believe it... I… I have a granddaughter…”
“No!” they chorused as Maria stared at the sobbing little girl.
“You poor thing…”
“She’s just some lost kid! Really!” Usagi exclaimed as she reached down and tried to pry the girl’s arms loose. ChibiUsa dug her fingers into her mother’s legs and held on even tighter. “Ow!! Hey! Ow! Stop that!”
Maria ignored their protests. “There, there, now,” she said soothingly as she crouched down beside the little girl and drew a gentle hand down the back of her head. “It’s all right. Did you miss them? What's your name?”
“Mother, I’m telling you she’s not…”
“She’s just some lost…”
ChibiUsa shrank closer to Usagi’s legs, and then slowly turned her head to look at the strange woman who was speaking so kindly to her.
