A/N: Turn = year, to go between is like teleporting, klah is like coffee
Lessa sat staring into the fire. The cup of klah had long since been replaced by a chilled glass of Benden's white wine. As she swirled the wine around in the glass she thought of that time. It was so long ago now, but she still remembered that jump clearly and would remember it until her dying day. She had figured out all the clues, and learned how to jump between times by accident. Then she did the stupidest, bravest thing she had ever done. She jump between backwards 400 Turns. Oh, she could remember all the excuses. The pep-talk she gave herself as she stared at the tapestry so she would have a reference point, but she would never do it again. The Lady at the door told her she couldn't. 'Like I'd ever want to.' Taking a sip of the wine she stared past the fire and into her memory of a place so cold that you couldn't even feel the dragon between your legs.

She made sure Ramoth had the reference point fixed in her mind and then told her to go. The golden queen dragon jumped between to go back in time. Between was cold because there is nothing there. All awareness is gone, you could not hear, see, touch, or speak. Normally this lasted until you coughed 3 times, but she felt like it was going on for hours. Ramoth talked soothing in her head to help her retain her sanity. All the sudden Ramoth landed, but it was not at the gate of Ruatha Hold. All of her sense came back full force. She stayed on Ramoth looking at the Lady standing in the shadow of a pair of large ornamental doors that barred her path.
"Lessa, Weyrwoman of Benden, you can travel no further." She looked around as the voice echoed around her. Finally she decided that it was the Lady speaking. "I have to go on! I cannot give up." The Lady stepped forward out of the shadow of the door. The light glinted off the large key that she carried as a staff. "Lessa, I watched you jump short intervals between times, and permitted it. I even allowed your people to set up a weyr in the future and allowed them to pass between times. But I cannot allow you to travel so far into the past. Return home."
She felt Ramoth shift underneath her. 'I have to think of a way to convince her.' "I have to find the missing weyrs and bring them back with me. Benden can not stand alone. We are over taxed, dragons and riders are making stupid mistakes because they are exhausted. Please! Let me continue."
At least the Lady was listening to her and did not reject her case automatically.
"We need more dragons to continue fighting Thread. They have to burn it up as it rains down, if it lands on the ground it will multiply and devour everything. Only the dragons with their fire breath and the riders with their knowledge stand between Pern and it's destruction. But one weyr can't do the work of 6. More and more riders and dragons are being threaded, some so bad that the rider dies and the dragon goes between. We can't loose anymore. The Southern weyr is helping, but not fast enough, and the riders are crippled by being in to many places at one time. I need to try. It's the only way." The Lady watched her quietly, seeming to weigh and judge every word she said.
"I've already seen to many deaths. Please, please don't turn me back without the aid my friends and people need." She whispered this last line. Ramoth crooned to her quietly, trying her best to comfort her. She stroked Ramoth's smooth neck.
The lady nodded and gestured to the door. As it was opening she said " You can only go and return this once. But the trip may take you life before you even arrive. Are you still sure you wish to continue?"
Still stroking Ramoth's neck she nodded. "I must."
"Then go."The door was completely open. She fixed the image of the door of Ruatha Hold again into Ramoth's mind. "Take us between Ramoth."

Pluto watched the pair vanish of to the past. 'Take care, Lessa of Pern.' She then waited for Small Lady to come for a visit so she could tell her of a place where dragons and people worked together to save their world. But she was sure Small Lady would only be interested in the fact that the dragons could really breath fire, and fly.
