Ah! Kawaii icon! Love it, Ree-chan!
Look! Look! Rei let me finish today! ^-^ It's only been in the works for about two weeks now. And writing only took me about two hours (not counting research and distracted reading... Drat Geist and Night... Reminding me that I have an unfinished story out there that could use some polish and another chapter... Ah well.)

Fade Into Light - Cooling Embers
I understand now.
Saturn’s request to make an open-ended visit to Empress Night’s court at Valhalla. Neptune’s unusual silence. Uranus’ mysterious smile. These subtle things that made me so uneasy… I understand them now.
The fire shows nothing but a gentle glow, a glow that slowly fades into drowsy darkness. It has confused me for months. Darkness is usually a sign of impending doom, yet I sense neither evil nor negativity. It is… comfortable. Alluring. Peaceful. I yearn to wrap it around myself and settle into it.
Today, when I found Serenity napping on a garden bench in the late afternoon sunlight, the thought crossed my mind that she was happily embracing that gentle darkness. And with that thought came sudden understanding. Intuition became knowledge. The question now is what to do with that knowledge.
Sailor Mars paused in her writing, and then placed the calligraphy pen into its inkwell. Absently brushing her raven hair behind one ear, she turned her violet gaze to the open window beside her and stared thoughtfully up at the moon. The sweet song of a nightingale replaced the scratching of pen on paper as she watched the waning silver crescent dance with the wispy clouds drifting through the night sky.
Several minutes later, the moon hid itself completely and an errant, jasmine scented breeze teased the strands free once more. Sailor Mars started as the dark lock fell forward, then shook her head in exasperation. Her mind was wandering again. She had an important decision to make, and staring blankly at the night sky would not help her make it any faster. She brushed her hair out of her face once more, then picked up her pen and turned back to her diary.
Neptune and Uranus left over a month ago. Where they went, I do not know and I do not believe anyone else has yet noticed their absence. Should I slip away, too? I do not wish to leave her. And yet, if I should fade before her it would cause her unnecessary pain. That I will not do if I can avoid it. Nor will I leave her unprotected. If she is becoming more vulnerable…
I cannot leave. She will need me. I will simply have to hide any weakness from her. After almost two millennia, that should be easy.
Sailor Mars nodded decisively as she finally made her decision. Capping her inkwell, she carefully heated the paper to dry the ink, and then closed the diary and slipped it back into its hiding place. She stretched, wincing as her back and shoulders snapped and popped, and then smiled wryly. Time was beginning to move again. Soon, she would need to buy dye to cover the grey that would appear in her hair and facial cream to keep the wrinkles at bay. Hopefully, Sailor Mercury would have some good ideas for foods or supplements to help them stay limber and pain free. For now, though, it was time to go to bed and get what rest she could. Hopefully, her dreams would continue to be peaceful.
