My CRTC class is totally kicking ass. Usually. I am learning about Voice over IP telecommunications which makes me want to go this way when I move and have to start all the bill nonsense all over again.
Some VoIP experiments are completely free. Well, economically speaking. You have to sign up for an address with them, but that's free. You talk through your Internet connection, which means both parties must have a high-speed connection. Some of these are not free, but some are, making the client listen to short advertisements. A lot of people seem disgusted by this which confuses me considering the amount of advertisements everyone deals with daily anyway. I mean really, free phone service to anywhere!
I think I will write my essay on this. That way I get to research something with two incentives in mind: a good grade and knowledge about what to sign up for!
I also learned this today: BBC2 has no advertisements because British residents pay 125 pounds a year to own a television set. Do you think Canada would be willing to pay an amount like that if it meant no advertising? I doubt it. My professor seemed keen on this idea which confuses me because she said she was more than willing to listen to the VoIP advertisements if it meant her phone service was free.
Anyway, sorry for being boring. This kind of stuff is what keeps me going sometimes.
