Melissa Etheridge has a new CD out,
and though I’m hardly a huge fan anymore (or any kind of fan, at that… I’ve mellowed), I got nostalgic… I first got her CDs when I was ten years younger (oh my god), and had such hunger in me, such desire and such belief… And such loneliness and such an enormous capacity for pain and anger. I used to play her first three CDs practically in a loop, feeling that the music was the only thing that gave voice to whatever it was that my soul yearned for.
Well, youth…
Ain’t that sounds banal…
Now, all these years later, all I have to offer to the world is a rather bitter smile.
Isn’t it funny that the only place these days where you can find a real discussion about purity or intensity of emotion, without it looking funny or rediculous, is in Japanese literature?..
So great being a coward.
(And no, this passage wasn’t supposed to make sense to anyone sane…).
Anyways, lyrics to the new song can be found
here.
