This LiveJournal was started July 5th, 2001 at 17:07:22.
Today is November 11th, 2007 about 22:10:4x.
That is about... 6 years, 4 months, 6 days, 5 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds of my life that I've kind of attempted to chronicle on this internet thing.
For those of you that know my age, you will know that I went from being a silly, foolish adolescent to... something slightly older and more nebulous. I can explain the way I was, but cannot quite put my finger on who I am today.
I've written and spoken extensively on the topic of internet identities. While other men (sysadmins and what not) have started their internet identities midway through their lives, I picked up a computer early on and as a result, my LiveJournal and other identities are reflective of my state as a youth. I've said many things and taken many positions that can be misconstrued and used inappropriately.
I'm certain that this account isn't the first casualty in this advancement of technology, nor will it be the last. As someone who has been on both sides of the hiring front, would you want an employer to see your 2006 post on the GameFAQs forums saying "zOMG ____ IS GAY!!!!111one"? Or that one drunken party on Facebook? Sadly, the walls between peoples' personal lives as they were on the Internet and the way they are in this strange new hybrid world are falling. Your
listening habits,
search history,
college life,
photos,
videos.... everything is out there. For everyone to see. The data of many, controlled by a few.
I'm keeping the entries up, but they're locked. A reflection of this silly boy's rants, dreams and inhibitions.
If you would like to get in contact with me, please leave a comment here or find me via the usual channels. I screen all of the comments and will probably delete them after viewing.
Thanks to everyone that's ever posted a great entry here--there have been a few life-changing ones--or ever had a conversation with me because of something I've written here. It's been a pleasure and I hope to see/talk/hear you soon; a few of you will be getting my new address shortly. :)
