Microsoft: Why? You show the good games in the first half hour and the the remaining hour you talk about your kiddie/casual kinect line up. It seems weak. You’re turning into nintendo with your focus on casual-ness. YOU DON’T DO THAT AT E3! I really don’t understand. I guess all the xbox fanboys LOVED it because they remaking halo 1 and there was a tiny halo 4 teaser trailor. Personally I think microsoft is starting to pull anything they can from copying nintendo in the past. We don’t need two nintendo press conferences at E3! GET THE COINS!
Sony: Sony had A LOT on their plate because of the whole psn being attacked, and they quickly talked about it and apologized to everyone who was affected by it. As the guy said “Without you, there wouldn’t be a Playstation Network.” And then they went straight to the games. They were all sequels and hard hitters. Sony played it super safe this year, which kind of bothered me. No Kevin Butler or anything entertaining, just a joke about a tie and ridge racer. Everything else was a smooth and known to do well plan. The major focus was of course Playstation Vita and they talked a lot about it, which COULD of been the “new” portion but really we saw games that have preexisted before and are now coming to Vita. They played it super safe this year, and while disappointing that they had to do it that way, they did a good job nonetheless.
Nintendo: Where do I begin? Before the press conference I was worried that “Project Cafe” would be another flop for nintendo. I have felt betrayed by nintendo starting since the Gamecube days. I felt that they have forgotten the core gamers and start to only focus on the casual. I can’t argue that it didn’t work, because they are doing so well with the casual market, but i can’t help to feel betrayed that they left me behind. I had an ultimatum in my head, If “Project Cafe” was going to be focused for the casuals again, I’d never buy another nintendo console again. Nintendo also played it safe. They announced 5 titles for the 3DS that we all knew that there were going to be games for it. What upset me the most by this was that the kid icarus game was shown but yet there’s still NO release date for it! Was a year wait for just an additional 60 seconds of trailer really worth it? NO! IT’S NOT! I was also pissed about how they “showed” skyward sword. YOu don’t mess with my zelda series. Even though the orchestra was fucking epic, just some LITTLE trailer for this game at the VERY end of the music piece was, once again, NOT WORTH A YEAR’S WAIT!! I’m very upset on how Nintendo is doing this. A YEARS WAIT FOR AN ADDITIONAL 30 SECONDS OF TRAILER AND NO NEW INFORMATION IS NOT A WAY TO PERFORM! You’re tearing me apart nintendo! You have showed me nothing of why I should continue buying your consoles. And then the reveal, after few mentions throughout. They decided it to call it the “Wii U.” I lost it. It’s a stupid name. And then they showed their first trailer for it. The demos were all for casuals and GIMMICKS. I was pissed. I literally was about to put my wii up on ebay. They talked about the controller ONLY. I guess they didn’t want to swamp us with information. The graphics didn’t look updated or anything, just the same gimmicky shit with a new gimmick. so. an hour has passed by and i saw no reason to continue to buy their games, and then they showed a demo video of what it could do. It was pretty, i’ll give it that, but they didn’t show it was a live shot or a prerender. And then one of the videos they had the guy saying that Batman Arkham City is coming to the Wii U. THAT got my attention. And then they showed a 3 minute video of all the hardcore titles that will come to the Wii U. This has started become a great show, I HOPE THERE’S MORE ABOUT IT! no. there wasn’t. They finished off by one of the head guys for EA saying how excited they are about making games for it. So all in all i’m left with several thoughts. Is it just the controller or….is this an extension to the god awful wii? WE don’t know ANYTHING about the Wii U besides teh damn controller. Thank god for G4 cuz they got Reggie to come on and say that it’s a brand new system and that it’ll be in 1080p. So. Now…about that ultimatum. I’m in a standstill. However, i have a optimistic view on this. I’M STILL skeptical but optimistically. Maybe nintendo won’t betray me again. I can’t make a decision until i see more about the Wii U.
All in all this year’s E3 was ok. a lot of safe decisions were made and no real gambles were taken. But we still have tons of games to see so, it isn’t bad. Some games look amazing and I can’t wait to try them!
