Sprouts!

Wandered out through the garden on my way to the chicken pen this morning. The peas are poking their tiny green heads through the soil! The Asian greens and broccoli rabe should start appearing very soon. Looks like we're a little over a month from some damned fine eating.

Found a nice unexpected bonus on last night's trip to the grocery store. There, in the dairy case amidst the overprocessed, rGBH/antibiotic residue laden products....organic cow's milk. Didn't cost much more, either - and I'd be willing to pay a lot more than I did for the quality and benefits. I'm still buying goat milk, both because I like it and it's a healthy alternative, but munchkin hasn't quite made the switch. Sometimes he prefers cow's milk to goat, other times he prefers a mix. He's declared that goat milk is *perfect* with chocolate chip cookies, though. What's wrong with a bit of variety, anyway?

His future wife may hate me for what I'm doing to his taste buds. He's not picky at all when it comes to what's on the plate, but he sure is when it comes to the quality and taste. It has to be fresh, and it has to be tasty. He's been known to beg for salmon for dinner. Loves his veggies, but doesn't like canned ones. Won't touch an instant potato product without a fuss. We were invited out to dinner a few weeks ago, nice local buffet homestyle place. They had the usual Southern favorites - including white rice, which he loves, so he got that with his chicken and veggies. Took one taste and said "Mom, I can't eat this. It's yucky." I tried it - and as expected, it was overcooked, tasteless white rice. He's used to basmati, either white or brown. The poor waitress almost went into shock when he went back for seconds on the broccoli and butter beans. He's going to be thrilled when he gets up and sees the peas. :)
