Never thought I'd say this, but...it would be a lot better if Katrina came this way, instead of where it's headed now. If this doesn't qualify as a worst-case scenario, I don't know what does - a cat4, potentially cat5 storm, headed for New Orleans. Yes, it would cause catastrophic property damage in the Panhandle, but the loss of life would be minimal, at least if people pay attention. In New Orleans...it could easily rival the Galveston hurricane, if not surpass it. Evacuating the city is virtually impossible; they've got nowhere to go but up - and up isn't going to help against a storm surge of that magnitude. If you're the praying type, now would be a good time to start - because man is powerless against this one.

I'm still not relaxing yet, given what Ivan and Dennis did - that last-minute wobble that headed them for Florida. All that really needs doing is putting up the plywood, bringing in the chickens and getting the hurricane supplies off the porch - nothing I can't do in a matter of a few hours, if things take a turn for the worse, so I'll wait a bit and see what happens.
