So, I've acquired some records ^^ and I love working at an antique shop, especially when my boss lets me take all the books and records I want for free. But I'm just gloating... I'm *such* a ham...
But I'm very happy. I made out like a bandit! I also got my sticky fingers on an old newspaper article devoted to Frank, and it's like eight pages long *_* with LOTS of piccies and two cutie ones with Dean~<3
But anyway, the records. I really wanted to find Dean ones but no such luck. Instead I found everyone else: Bing, Frank, Perry, Tony Bennett and even a Vic Damone. I'm not really a fan of Vic's but he's like the straight version of Dean and sort sounds like him too and the songs were interesting so I thought I'd try something new.
My biggest find was a DECCA record - the really thick, supposedly unbreakable kind of record that only has one song per side - and it features Bing's 'My Buddy' & 'I Only Want a Buddy, not a Gal.'
Suggestive much? Very ^^ but the songs are very sad... especially 'My Buddy' which is so obviously a love song from a fella to another fella. I'll assume this record is rare~ish.
I'll have to write the lyrics in myself :3
Nights are Long Since You Went Away
I Think About You All Through the Day
My Buddy, My Buddy, Nobody Quite so True.
I Miss Your Voice, the Touch of Your Hand
Just Long to Know that You Understand,
My Buddy, My Buddy, You're Buddy Misses You.
(repeat)
On the Variety Show when Dean attempted to sing this song, very seriously, while Phil Silvers persisted in fugging him up, Dean very distinctly said, 'I Miss You Boy' as opposed to 'I Miss Your Voice.' Dean's a very smart cat and I'm sure he knows a gay song better than anyone...
'My Buddy' was extremely pretty if not extremely melancholy and in my opinion Bing was pining for Bob Hope and everyone should know about their love affair. In their films and on TV together, they were even more obvious than Dean & Jerry if that's possible and the documentary on gay cinema 'Color Me, Lavender' devoted most of it's inspection on the relationship and clips of Bob and Bing.
'My Buddy' is one song I certainly can't seem to stop listening to at the moment *_* maybe it's just morbid fascination but I think this explains a lot of Bing's emotional issues quite nicely....
