What is every man's true desire?
That desire is to upload massive images that take up extreme amounts of bandwidth. And that is being done, one picture at a time.
I introduced Kat to the wonder that is
JackinWorld, which can probably be referenced in one her posts. It's kinda funny to think after six or seven years, they haven't really gone away, espescially when you haven't visited it since then. Most sites wither away with the torrents of time. This site, on the other hand, has proven itself ot be such a useful resource to masturbators everywhere that it must truly be the pinnacle of our culture. If we can measure sexual security as a measurement of the progress of society, then JackinWorld truly shows that we are in the right step. Right?
Using kat's keyboard makes me miss the keyboard I have at home. Her shift key has way too much resistnce, whereas mine seems to have the perfect counterforce. I have always preferred keyboards with a moderately heavy amount of key resistence, and that's partially why I hate laptop keyboards. It wouldn't be so weird if it wasn't just one key that screwed around with me, though. I am not accustomed to using the left shift key, so I find that my hands are already hurting just a little. Then again, it may be the angle that the keyboard is at. Her keyboard has one of those palm rests on it that are supposed to make it more ergonomically correct. I find this puts unnessescary strain on my wrists, but then again, like I said, I'm more accustomed to my keyboard configuration at home.
The best keyboard's I've ever used were old-skool. My cousin bradlee has this IBM keyboard that's spring-loaded. In a sense, most keyboards are, but revery time you hit a key you hear the spring recoil: it's amazing. I'm too nostalgic when it comes to computers though.
Next week I get to help install the last 40 nodes on our linux cluster. 160 processors with 80GB of RAM and 2TB of harddrive space have to speak for something, right? I can't wait to use the damn thing. Too bad our power and air conditioner don't come in until sometime later this week. Anyway the thing is fucking massive: redundant power on every node, and that's 80 nodes mind you. Each rack is 1U, which I believe is 1.5 inches high, so with 40 nodes per rack, that means that the rack is about 5 feet high, not including the switches and shit we have to put in. Fantastico! I was joking with Dr. Cvek about how if we didn't get our AC, at least we could turn it into a sauna room.
Also in my PHYS420 class, we're finally putting together our computers. We're using two variants of the M68HC11 as a microcontroller. Both are 40-Pin PGA packages, although there's one variant which has a whopping 256B of internal memory, and there are 5 ports, one of which whic his connected to an ADC. We've been spending the last couple of weeks covering basic digital, which is actually pretty fun. We basically spent the entire lecture discussing latches and processor architecture. While this is a 6 hour class, I think it's well worth the time I'm putting into it. I'm having a blast. I've been thinking about my final project even though we've just started class, and I think it'll be fun.
I've also got another task which should be fairly interesting. Dr. Trutschl and Dr. Cvek also have a steroscopic projector that they've been working on since last semester. Dr. Trutschl wants me to write a nice little demo in Java3D to show off the capabilities of the projector, so I'm thinking about borrowing some stuff from the c64 scene. There's some really nice ideas out there, my favorite so far being the fluid coke can from Deus Ex Machinae.
Well besides that I've been chilling. I've started hanging out with my next-door neighbors more frequently. I was outside smoking and Martha was like, hey, want to come and watch Sex in(?) the City? So I'm like, ok. So me and her and rachel and rachel's boyfriend went and watched it, and while I can't say I care for the plot too much, there's some pretty funny shit in there. I think I stayed over there until 2AM or so, and then the next morning I almost didn't make it to Java (which wouldn't have surprised me anyway because it was so damn dreary and cold that I didn't feel like getting out of bed). Then last night I went over there again and Rachel and Jake were watching the Thing, which is yet another horror movie gone wrong. They're awesome people, that they are.
So now I'm spending the night with Stephen and Kitty, so that should be pretty cool. I think I'm gonna head to bed pretty soon, cause we gotta pick Kat's dad up.
