Yay for 1,000 words per day. More or less. Not everything I was hoping for, but a good start nonetheless. I'm at almost 3,500 words on the first short story (with the self-inflicted limit of 6,000 and I hope to get it done in the next couple of days. I think, so far, that it's of a decent quality, though it's been so bloody long since I wrote fiction that I'm completely unsure about the pacing and such. I think the best thing I can do right now is just finish it, then go back and rework it at my leisure while I start on another story. Might actually meet that end-of-May deadline at this rate.
In some warped ways this story is a retelling of "The Doldrums," which I wrote as a fiction piece for MAGGOTT's "Dying Lights" game, though only in the broad themes and a few of the smaller details. It's a good idea to work with, though I'm already starting to wonder what I'm going to try to write about once this one is finished.
