To Believe or not to Believe

“For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.”
-----------------------------------------------------------

Today morning around 10ish I started to office. I was walking towards the main road in search of an Auto as I knew that I had already missed the 10am Volvo bus which conveniently drops me to office. A guy who is probably in his early 20s who was sitting on his 2 wheeler parked on the side of the road reached out to me and

Him:  Excuse me.
Me:    Yes
Him:  I need a favor, Can you please help
Me:    What help?
Him:  Kannada barutta?  [ Do you know Kannada ]
Me:    Hoon, Barutte..       [ Yes, I do ]
Him:  (In Kannada) I need some money to re-fuel my vehicle. I forgot my wallet & my vehicle has ran out of fuel.

I had like around 60 Rs in total & a few dollars [ My wallet is a mess, I still haven't cleared some Malaysian, US & Singapore Dollars ]
I said "I don’t have enough cash with me, will have to withdraw from some ATM" and walked away. Have seen a lot of people asking for money in various different ways. Just thought that this is one such new way.

After a while, I started feeling that I could have possibly given him some 20 bucks atleast which would have helped him to refuel to whatever small extent, and possibly reach home. May be he was really in trouble & in need of some cash. He did look decent. Probably I should have helped and various such thoughts..
While I was pondering over these, did see the RED colored luxury carrier approaching. Hopped on to it..

Another incident which I want to relate to this post.
I was walking with a Finnish friend if mine in Tampere. We were just walking past the bus stop & a young gal spoke to my friend in Finnish. Though I could not understand their language, but by the way he showed his empty pockets - I could understand that she was asking for some money.
After we moved further, I asked him as to what the matter was..
He said that the girl wanted some money to take a bus and go home. I just smiled.. [ He has been to India quite a few times & knows how it is over here]. He tells me - " No, its not a trick, If she asked for money, it means she really needed money. Its just that I carry credit cards & no cash, hence could not offer her help".
I was dumb struck. I was amazed to see the amount of trust they have amongst each other. At the same time felt sorry for the way I think.

That day, I did decide to change the way I judge people. This helped me give away 50 bucks to some family of 4, miserably roaming around in Jayanagar 4th block - telling that they only know Hindi & they want help to gather some money to reach home - Bihar. After two weeks, I happen to see them in Jayanagr 9th block.. Damn!!
Well, not quite easy to judge people .

Like I mentioned above, don’t have much cash with me, did not happen to see any ATM nearby. Better borrow some money otherwiseI may be in the same situation as this chap was - today morning..
