I have to tell you that a gif you posted on Tumblr has now got me seriously addicted to Orphan Black - I have no idea what I'm going to do when the series finishes. (am up to ep 9)
Tatiana Maslany is just amazing, as is the rest of the cast - I want Felix as my brother (I don't have a brother, but if I did, I'd want one like him)

As for Atlantis Seriously though, I find it astounding that people are rushing so quickly to eat up such obnoxious queer-baiting *shakes head* me too, me too,
I've read 2 reviews, and one did say the Tumblr crowd will love it. (but how big is that audience, really? can't be that substantial)

This pretty much sums of my feeling of Capps and Murphy http://gnimaerd.tumblr.com/post/62508518318/gni-is-going-to-rant-about-atlantis-the-media-and-her

You know, I posted that GIF set of Orphan Black long before I knew what it was - I had only seen people raving about it on Tumblr. And then just last week my sister's boyfriend set up my laptop with Torrent downloads and I mentioned Orphan Black and I've been DEVOURING it ever since (so has sis/boyfriend). It's so funny how it's caught on with my immediate circle so quickly, and I've just this minute finished the last episode and I'm going to be in agony waiting for series 2 ( ... )

I'd heard a little bit about it, probably on Tumblr, but had no idea of what it was about, so that gif got me intrigued.

Made a mistake, I've just finished ep 8 (oh god Kira!!!) but I also love Mrs S - and my husband just walked past and went Oh, bad dude from Robocop (Dr Leakie)

Ok, now on to Ep 9!

Can't say anything about Atlantis, I am not going to watch that abomination ever.

But... Seeing how the both of you praised Orphan Black so much, I gave it a go. And thanks, I'm 3 eps in, want to watch more, but I bloody need to get to bed cause I have an early start tomorrow! Argh!

Looking at the BBCs tweet today, I don't think Murphy will need to do a commentary. They've asked for "ship" names - between Jason and Pythagoras of course. Girls what girls? (I've seen hypotheses of Ariadne being Jason's half sister)
Regardless of the show itself, it's an interesting marketing strategy ( not that I'm a marketing expert). Tapping into fandom is not something organisations have been particularly successful at, and fans can be very fickle, especially when being dictated too.
They'll be asking for fanfic next!

Wow, that's... really something. I'm not sure whether it'll backfire or not though. It sounds as though their strategy like offering a child sweets and then pulling back every time they try to grab them. I guess it depends on how long fandom is willing to put up with that (though from what I've seen, quite a lot of fans are willing to put up with ship-teasing with no promise of actual canonization).

I agree I'm not sure whether it will work for them or not, (I also agree about ship-teasing the fans) although as the person who retweeted said - They should make sure they've got a fanbase before fan-servicing them.
I do wonder how the actors are playing it, or have been told to play it, I know Colin and Bradley have both said they never played it that way, and it was always just a friendship (well until the very end at least) I wonder too, if this will become a trend in marketing new shows (I hope not!)

I think when it comes to shipping, most people find it irrelevant what the actors think. I think the most pertinent remark came from Colin: "people see what they want to see."

In this case, the script calls for "Jason falls through window and lands on top of Pythagoras". It looks pretty innocuous written down, but the writers MUST have known how the fan-base would take it, and they're inevitably going to throw in a het angle what with the hints of ship-tease between Ariadne/Jason what with all the lingering glances. At this point I don't think the writers realize that fandom either wants a. decent gay representation or b. validation for their ship by having the characters involve hook-up in canon - they just think homoeroticism is a huge joke and like watching the reaction that they can achieve.
