Writing Warm Up - Pomegranate

Oct 27, 2013 13:15

This is just a little writing warm up that I did to help me become better at descriptions. Fruit's fun to write about, so if you want to do a little warm up, try describing the consumption of your favorite fruit.

[Click here to read! Warning: Mouthwatering]
Smooth hands peel back the pink, spongy skin, exposing a multitude of ruby orbs hidden within. They stick clustered together as if it will save them from the prying fingers. The appendages dig through the mounds, causing some of the precious drops of red to dislodge and plop into the waiting container below. Slowly but surely, the jade bowl fills up with the small seeds.

At first the small jewels seem to be solely red hexagons, but upon closer inspection, it is made apparent that the red comes from the liquid enclosed in a translucent casing. Beautiful, exotic, mouth watering, only some of the words that are used to describe the tempting garnets. Satisfied with its work, the hand removes itself, revealing the creamy skin now stained with bright pink. Voracious eyes advert themselves to the, now filled to the brim, bowl.  A rapacious palm thrusts itself into the awaiting spheres, gathering a few into its palm. Purposely, a few of the crimson beads get tossed into the awaiting mouth.

The orbs are savored, not yet bitten into, but teasingly jostled around by and eager tongue. It turns them over and over again, as if trying to memorize the shape and texture, before pushing them in-between the awaiting pearly teeth. Slight pressure is applied as if testing the durability, before the pointy incisors pierce the outer flesh. Sweet juices drip onto the awaiting taste buds, tantalizing with the hint of the tart taste. Then, in an unforgiving motion, the seed is crushed between the teeth allowing the full burst of flavor to explode within the mouth. Swallowing the hard aril, the mouth moves on to consume the remaining seeds that have been waiting their demise.

One hand grab after another leads the remaining spheres to the anxious mouth, the bowl slowly becoming empty again.

I'm going to go get my hands on a pomegranate now. Yum!
