It's been a while...

It's been some time since I've gotten around to here.

Partially because of laziness, partially because of.. Well, my life is boring.

I get up, I go to work, I come home. On weekend, I visit friends or friends come over. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Some things have been changing, though:

I've been dating the same girl for almost 2 and a half years now. Something of a record.

I'm looking at getting a new job soon, a tech/IT job. It'll pay more than I'm making now, and easier work, not to mention looking good on a resume.

I'm also probably moving soon. My flatmate and I have been living in a decent 2-bedroom condo for about 2 years and we're just waiting to get confirmation on getting a new place a couple KM from here. It's an older building, but it's a nicer one.

The new place will have a spa and a gym in it. I promised myself that if I could live in a place with a gym, I'd try to use it every day, at least for a little while each day.

Other news: A boot drive on my computer died a few weeks back. I used 2 drives in a RAID-0 (striped, non-redundant disk array) for my OS and program drive, for improved loading speed.

One of those drives failed, taking every installed program and my OS with it. Non-recoverable data loss.

Fortunately, I'm anal-retentive about keeping all important data on different disks, and backing up all important stuff to my 2 TB NAS, which has a RAID-1 (mirrored, fully redundant). So the actual lost data was little more than some downloaded programs, some pictures, game save files, and maybe 2 week's worth of book marks.

I replaced the old array, with the dead drive. I'm now using a pair of striped Velociraptors in a RAID-0. I've noticed my read/writes speeds have improved significantly. Over twice the data read rate of one of my old single drives.

I've switched to Windows 7, and quite liking it. A vast improvement of Vistard (which I had on my older laptop, and hated with a passion.

I've been building a MAME cabinet, working on it more off than on. It's mostly complete. All it needs to be functional is a display. Which will happen when I have money to afford it. Then some clean-up/painting/etc.

Finally... No FC for me. Again.

I couldn't go last year, because the 2010 Olympics were going on, and my company was a contractor, so they canceled all vacations until after the Olympics were over.

This year, my finances aren't going to allow me to both move and go to FC. Moving takes priority.

If I get the new job, maybe I'll go to AC.

As a result of me not going, I have a friend that's got a space in one of the suites that's available, so if someone wants to get into a suite, let me know.

Oh, and I turned 40 last October.

Not bad for 40....
