I need to vent....
I've had a few minor indirect clashes with my fandom lately, which has left me a bit irritated. I admit, it's my fault. I've been spending too much time on the internet. But there is something very wrong when my own fandom is making me want to bash my favorite character and defend their arch rival. For the record, I never had anything against my favorite character's rival in the first place. I just never had much to say about them. I understand them and I accept them, faults and all. And this should always be done with your favorite character as well.
But what gets me even more ticked off than anything is when I feel I have to bash my favorite character constantly because a whole lot of my fandom refuses to see any of his faults. Like when he bullies his students and humiliates them in class. Or when he treats a specific student like complete shit because of his own personal issues. And then the most irritating thing of all, is when the majority of my fandom goes apeshit over the people that treated him like shit. TheY hate the people who bullied him, they hate the person who apparently wasn't there for him when he needed her. Because for some reason anything bad that was ever done to him by anyone deserves some smack and an analysis as to what the writer was thinking for making such things happen that way, but when HE treats people with utter disdain, it's COMPLETELY understandable. See, it's not even about understanding where my favorite character comes from. It's that he can do NO WRONG!
Yes, I am talking to you Snapedom, or whatever people and places that are convinced that Lily was a slut, the Mauraders were Nazis, Harry was a naive little moron who didn't know any better (and it's still not enough that he named his kid after Snape), and the Slytherins were victims of "racism". Yes, I'm talking to you the people who think your "woobee" can do no wrong, and that somehow think the racism and oppression of people of color and other minority groups, (a.k.a. real life issues that some groups of people in the world have to face every single day of their lives, some even having a some form of genocide in their history) should even be compared to the stereotyping of a BOARDING SCHOOL HOUSE DORMITORY!
There. I said it. I could go into more details about this, but I'll continue later.
