Because I feel like complaining

MerryLore: "And, as crazy as this sounds, I'm not sure even most of the DEs were killers. My guess is that most of them weren't. They were people who believed in the idea of pure bloods being superior, and witches and wizards with at least one magic parent being superior to muggles. I don't see the group as Nazi's at all. You put this is BOLD:

"They didn't want to wipe of the muggles. They wanted them to serve. They remind me more as slave owners in the 1800's."

and that was precisely the point of my post. Subjugation and not eradication. If you thought I said one group wasn't as bad as the other and found that offensive, well, I could understand finding that offensive -I would feel the same. And I'm glad I can post how I actually see the situation. In fact, the post was deleted - I would never want anyone to think I believe that way.

but then you add this:

"I hope someone on that thread calls out how fucking stupid problematic this is. But it's not saying anything negative about Snape, so I doubt it. "

Snape? My post had nothing to do with Snape, but you're the one who mentioned the character. Many of the comments here suggest I'm trying to condone him and Death Eaters. STUPID is saying it's not so bad to be similar to a slave holder, because they weren't as evil as Nazi's. Of course they were. They were every bit as disgusting.

I'm not trying to turn anything around. People here are talking about Snape and how stupid he was to join the DEs. Of course he was!! Stupid doesn't even begin cover it. And yet I get them impression from several of these posts that I'm comparing DE's to the "not so bad" slave holders in order to condone Snape becoming a DE. You can't deny it's here in some of these posts.

Look, I understand not everyone likes Snape. He's a character in in a series of books, and everyone has the right to their opinion. I really don't care if people's opinions of him match my own, or they don't. My own best friend, who introduced me to the world of HP, doesn't like him, and I do, and we accept that. I'm not interested in debating that here. But since my name is appearing here, I do feel compelled to jump in.

If people misunderstood my original post, I sincerely apologize - that was never what I intended. But don't say I'm "trying to turn it around" - I'm not.

You accused me of not finding both groups offensive, which is where my "nice job trying to turn this around on me" remark is referring to.

As for my remark about Snape, there are posters on HPN and/or other Snapefans who they associate themselves with who have had a history over the years of saying some really offensive remarks about real life issues in order to defend Snape and/or make comparisons to aspects of the books. And these same people along with their friends have been known to ignore offensive remarks made from others. But they definitely get more riled up if something offensive is said about Snape. That's what I was referring to based on my observations of these posters over the years.

And just to be clear in case this post is misunderstood in anyway, my remarks have nothing to do with hating Snape. I myself am a Snape fans and Snevans shipper who is just fed up at what some people do/say in this fandom. I'm also not the only Snape fan to feel this way or feel alienated by these posters.

And I appreciate you trying to set the record straight about your original post.

Well, no, I thought I was the only one being accused of that nonsense. I could tell you didn't believe that way, and neither did anyone else here.

Biased? The first forum I ever joined was Syfy's Ghost Hunters. Talk about the fur flying! Some believe in ghosts, some don't. Some believe the cast fakes evidence, some don't. Some are atheists, some agnostics, and then you get people from all sorts of various religions. Even the cast of the show themselves would show up and join in the fray. That forum had more drama than any show ever on television.

It's simple, I think. There are facts, and then there are beliefs. 99% of all human beings on the planet filter their experiences through their belief systems, and most are unaware that they are doing it. They are convinced their beliefs are facts, and if challenged, many will fight for them, while others will simply ignore anything that disagrees with those beliefs. Snape fans are biased. So are James fans. And Sirius fans. And Lily fans. And Harry fans. And Ron fans. And they're so convinced they AREN'T biased, they usually won't budge an inch, but they'll convince themselves they're open minded.

Most people team up with others who see things the same way they do. I post on HPN because I really like Snape and enjoy reading thousands of pro-Snape posts. I avoid anti-Snape forums and LJ posts. I seldom post on them, because I figure those people deserve their own space.

My personality doesn't match most Snape fans, I suspect. They follow their heads, while I'm emotional and follow my feelings. My guess is that most of them look at me and just shake their heads. Very few of them seem genuinely interested in me as a person. I do share some of their biases, I suppose, though, and I'm associated with them as a whole. That's fine.

Anyway, I digress. Than you so much for allowing me to to respond!

"Myself, I find both groups offensive. I'm amazed you don't."

That's what you said in your first post here, which I responded with my "turn this around on me" remark. But I don't don't mean this as an attack or trying to one up you. What's done is done, but just wanted to clarify why I said what I said.

I admit, maybe I am biased. Though I've been trying my best to look at things a little more critically as of late. There's a actually quite a few things I a do agree on with some of the posters on HPN, I just don't care to talk about it much.
