*yawns* I'm alive... barely.

So AHBL2 con.

Went well and was generally pretty damn awesome.

Got there early, my seat was right behind the people I went with despite buying tickets a week or two apart! *cue eerie music* Very, very awesome. Girl I was sitting next to turned out to be pretty damn cool too. No scary fan craziness in sight.

I'll admit it right now that I'd heard stories, will explain where I got such a bad impression in a moment, and was a tad terrified of crazy fangirls. BUT turns out it was 99.99999% safe. Only 1 person who I cringed at and felt terribly uncomfortable for Misha's sake. I don't blame him for asking WTF a girl was thinking of doing with a napkin he used to dry his pants with. Apparently he spilled alcohol on himself at the cocktail party and she very oddly took the napkin afterward.

But apart from that 1 thing it was pretty much awesome and then even more awesome.

I actually forgot that Sam Ferris was going to be there. She's funny and seemed rather down to earth and generally I adored her and thought she said some really, really cool things. Including talking about 5 women who go out to Vancouver each year to meet up and check out sites the show is filmed at. She was telling the story in a positive, fandom sounds really nice, supportive sense. That after all the Diana whatever her name is Author wank-fest, yeah, made me very very warm and fuzzy. She may not have been talking about writers but just the fact she gets why it is that so many of us are part of fandom, for the friendships and community stuff, I think I love her.

Rob...OMFG *mini-flail* Rob. I must say I wasn't really caring about his and Julie's panel that much until he started talking and turned out to be so freaking adorable! He just, he is a little like Chuck in the whole sort of nervous, not Mr Big Confidence (unlike Misha and Jim) He seemed really sweet and touched that people liked his band and his music and would even want to see his stuff on a SPN soundtrack.

Julie. She's sweet, seems a bit shy. She worked really well with Rob. The two of them seemed to bounce off each other rather well, I think if she'd been alone up there I may have been a little bored by her answers. Sorry, feel awful saying it but yeah.

Misha. *snorts* What can I say that hasn't already been said?

I decided to go because I figured $120 for an hour of entertainment provided by the most amusing snarky intelligent crowd pleaser was a good investment of time and money.

I wasn't disappointed.

Got a photo with him in the morning which was terrifying. NOT because of Misha but because I'm epileptic and HELLO FLASHING LIGHTS OF DOOM!

The event people were amazing and I couldn't have asked for a nicer guy to take care of me. I asked to go last so I could stay out of the photo area for as long as possible and he was totally cool with it when I explained why. He didn't want to have to deal with a seizure any more than I did. So he kept scooting me up the room and hiding me in little niches away from the flashing lights.

Caught enough of the flashes to start feeling rather uncomfortable though, so by the time I met Misha I wasn't at my best. The man is compact, he looks a lot bigger in that trench coat than he really is, he's tall but slimmer than I expected. So it was hi, how you doin? nice to meet you, thanks for coming out and I ran.

I turned my head at one point and have this special affects moment cause he turned his head, I saw his face and then the flash from the other camera went off and everything went white. I sort of ran away after that.

The flash photography for the first 5 minutes of his panel almost gave me a seizure. I tried covering my face but it got so bad I crawled over the back of my seat (no one was behind me) and had to hide outside the room for that 5 mins. :( I heard most of it but missed a bit.

Same thing happened when he put the shirt on to auction it off at the end, I tried covering my face but had to bolt again. *le sigh* I probably looked like a complete freak but better that than unconscious and creating a huge scene. Managed to watch a bit of the auction when the flashes died down. He signed the shirt and wrote his temporary Australian phone no. on it. He even promised to answer the phone once. Brave man.

I'm very glad they screened the questions for Misha and Jim, I think it cut down on a lot of repetitive or possibly inappropriate questions.

Jim was, I don't know what I expected but Jim wasn't anything like it. He was funny and sweet and really, really freaking intelligent. He told really good stories and gave great answers. Much in the same way Misha gives great, if often misleading, answers and tells awesome funny, stories. Jim seems far more honest but is no less entertaining.

Overall the panels were so much better than I expected. I've never been to a con and was expecting to spend a lot of the day bored, standing around in a line or waiting between panels but everything was really well scheduled.

Now I can't wait for the DVD so I can watch what I missed and re-watch everything else.

Reasons I was expecting the crazy fangirl stuff was from the DVD of last year and stories I've heard from other cons. I love the show and the actors. I get why people get so excited, they're meeting people who are famous and who they adore/admire/lust after, whatever. I'm cool with all of that. It's the fans who have to make a spectacle of themselves in a bid to get noticed, or can't seem to get that these actors are just people too that bug me.

I've met a few famous people, lived next door to some even and just can't seem to see them as anything but people with a cool job. *shrug*

And I definitely do no get the level of fan hate within fandom. My OTP is much more valid than your's etc etc etc... But that's another story entirely.

Then I went back to see friends before I trekked on home to the mountains only to hear about some of the worst fan behaviour I've ever heard about. It's infamous and exploding all over the place at the moment and I doubt I need to explain bar saying Wincon 2008.

But yeah, scary shit.

In short. Con great! :) Flashing lights bad. :(
