Field Course

Sep 18, 2009 20:39

Having never studied geography, biology or any variation thereof, I have never been on a field trip in my life. So, it is with some trepidation that I embarked on that very endeavour today. Hopefully, I will last the week, but I fear the undergraduates I'm with may yet prove to be my downfall.

Your worst enemy on field trips is the elements. Be afraid if you are venturing to Wales or Scotland.

Anglesey, so I'm now afraid. I have wellington boots and a waterproof jacket, and the place I'm staying at provides everything else.

I feel you may be mocking me.

All things considered, you are probably right to do so :)

Just check the weather forecasts and dress appropriately. Waterproof trousers if necessary. There are few things more miserable than being stuck out on a hillside for a whole day with no shelter in the pissing rain and you got soaked through after an hour.

Fingerless gloves are fantastic if you have to be working on something in the cold.

And hard alcohol is never a bad idea.

Wait, no, no hard alcohol, desperately unprofessional to drink on assignment. Forget I said anything!
