Trains are indeed slow. I took the Amtrak from Davis to Bakersfield several times when I went to school up there. It's a 5 hour trip in a car. An 8 hour trip on a train. And one time there was a weirdly religious lady trying to preach to me. But the Amtrak trains have delicious hot dogs.
