So I got into a car accident yesterday. Some woman in a Honda CR-V was stopped at a light, and I hit the brakes just a little too late. More than a little too late, I suppose. There was no oncoming traffic to the left due to the red light, so I attempted to swerve left and avoid it entirely, but I ended up hitting her trailer hitch on the right side of my bumper. The hitch went through the bumper like a hot knife through butter, while her spare tire cap busted my right headlight, snapped off the radiator cap, and bent the hood a bit. Her vehicle sustained little more than some scratches to her rear bumper and the spare tire cap. No one was hurt, and considering that it was my fault, I'm glad that virtually all the damage was done to my own car. The car is now in the body shop, and hopefully we'll have an appraisal from the insurance company within a couple days.

I got to work at about 13:00 yesterday, stayed overnight, and had duty today. Yay. This is by far the most royally fucked weather since I've been stationed here. We've had five inches of pure fucking sleet, which is still coming down. We were out shoveling the shit from about 15:00 today until 20:00... Each time we shovelled, we had to shovel twice due to the frozen shit underneath. Then we ran out of salt and had to go over to the station to get more. We managed to nab about 75 lbs of salt from them, and then ran out...AGAIN.

We've had an on the dock wind all day, and the boat was actually starting to rub up against the pier due to a popped fender. We spent two more fucking hours trying to fix the proble. By the way, does anyone have any idea how difficult it is for two people standing on the pier to push a 150 ton, 110 foot long ship against 25 knot winds, far enough to squeeze in what is basically a huge rubber ballon, all the while being pelted by flying ice? Fucking ridiculous, is what it is. So we FINALLY managed to squeeze a couple extra fenders (that just happened to be lying around) in between the boat and the pier, and I've gotten to sit down for about the first time today, at 22:00.

Oh yea, and my feet are soaked, for fucks sake. By the way, isn't it only 5 goddamn days from Spring? What gives?

It's been a phenomenal couple days.

Yay.
