I know it has been several weeks since a friday post, but with Mom's health issues, XPI, FSG and other schedul-a-sauruses, you get what you get...
In which I Live.. and Walk! (FSG Knee talk, for those wanting an update)
Warning: This is medical in nature though I will spare the gory details... if you are adverse to hearing about knees and pain and ERs, skip this update.
Last friday I was non-concentually beaten by the pool at Ramblewood. I had just finished my last Lifeguarding shift for the week, and was taking a cool-off swim before heading back to my cabin for dinner. A friend came over to tell me that my friend L. was getting her tattoo, and that her partners were not able to sit with her, so I volunteered to go help her ground. I climbed up the metal pool ladder near my towel. I have done this before... in fact, even earlier in the week, but that day the rungs were move slippery than I suspected. My feet slipped off the rungs and I fell straight down onto my right knee-cap.
Luckily, I kept my wits about me. I shoved off the ladder while falling, so did not hit my head. I also reached down to rub my knee, and realized that I was cut open badly, though in the cold water there had been no bleeding yet. I cupped my hand over what felt like a nasty laceration (it was), and floated on my back, calling for help. Lucky for me, not only was my festival boss CobraEMT there, but my freind and top-notch EMT J. was there.. and together they took care of me until the rest of the medic team got there.. along with most of security, and half the gents in my cabingroup, and and and....
I am blessed with a great number of people who care for and about me, and were there for me through the subsequent:
-Chairslide and deadlift into the back of my truck
-ER visit of 4 hours (ending up with 12 stitches and 2 NEEDLES.. one painless, the other more painful than anything I have experienced since getting my 3 hour tattoo from Addie)
-Return to camp to be planted in a camp chair
-following day and a half in camp and through pack-out.
Thank you all SO MUCH!!
As of today I am off the cane entirely, and able to wear pants for the first time since the fall. I get my stitches out on Monday, and look forward to being able to start working the stiffness and soreness out of my knee soon therafter. The knee is still weak.. I hope there is not tendon damage that hid itself under the sweeling and brusing, but only time will tell. I only missed one day of work, and I feel certain of a full recovery.
... and really, after all that? What more is there to tell? :-)
Ciao!
