Comment with “SHOWTIME!” and I will give you five actors and five actresses. Then post in your journal-of-choice what your favorite film of theirs is and why.
So I got this list from
dodger_winslow and I've been plinking at it for awhile and decided to just stop playing with it and post first impressions. Over-thinking is not what memes are about.
Kiefer Sutherland
Since 24 is a show and not a film, I had to look elsewhere. It is so easy to forget the amount of crap this guy has been in until you look at his IMdB page. But I have to go with Flatliners. It's one of my favorite movies of all time, for all its faults, and he was one of the best things in it.
Harrison Ford
Star Wars. The one, the original, the Han-shot-first. No contest. It was, is, and always be my favorite movie.
Christopher Walken
Man, oh, man. What hasn't this guy done? But picking one... I might actually have to go with Hairspray. While I adore his creepy intensity, I love him best when he's playful and dancing. But my absolute performances anywhere are his Continental sketches from SNL.
Johnny Depp
Mmmm, Depp. Off the top of my head, Chocolat, Pirates and Sleepy Hollow come immediately to mind. But thinking a little more, Ed Wood and Sweeney Todd are the leaders, with Todd just eeking out ahead because, you know, cannibalism trumps cross-dressing in my sick little world.
Chris Evans
This is harder because as much as I love him, he plays almost the same damn character in almost every movie he does. But Jensen's love of pink shirts combined with singing Journey set the Losers above the pack... until Captain America comes out and, dude, no contest (unless the movie totally blows which, pleasegodcaptainamericadon'tsuck).
Meryl Streep
It actually surprises me how few of La Streep's movies I've seen. But of those few I'd say Sophie's Choice, because that movie will never not shock, sadden, and enrage me, largely thanks to her performance in it.
Sandra Bullock
Speed. Don't judge me. Practical Magic's a close second, though. I can't stand rom-com by and large and since that's normally what she does... although thinking about it, Murder by Numbers was pretty good, I just think she was miscast in it. But still. Speed. Blowing things up and crashing cars sometimes are all it takes to make me love a movie.
Natalie Portman
Before she devolved into historical Oscar-bait and WTF sci-fy, Natalie was a haunting little girl who adopted a hit-man. I hold onto that very tightly some days, although her newest, Black Swan, looks gorgeous.
Kathy Bates
Primary Colors vs. Misery. And since Annie has the sledgehammer, we'll say Misery. But seriously, she owns that movie and I honestly can not see any other actress in that role. Her performance lifted what I would argue to be one of King's weaker works to art in a way I hadn't seen since the Shining.
Gillian Anderson
Just by movies I'd have to say Princess Mononoke. I loved the voice work she did, it was so different from what I expected and that entire movie is just wonderful. But if I'm going for performances, the obvious X-files aside, I'd say Bleak House which was fantastic and I need to rent again sometime.
