There are a great number of words that I could use to describe my day. Most of them would be curses and I could rage about it but that would just turn into nonsensical rambling that would probably just end up making me look like a crazy person. I am going to have to take a deep breath and just calmly try and relate the events of the past 12 hours.

Firstly to really understand how today was, I have to tell you about yesterday. Yes, it’s bending the rules a bit but the two days are linked and it all started around 3pm yesterday. My team nurse and I went to go to a consumer’s home. Two consumer’s actually. They are married and you’d think that would make things easier but it doesn’t. (Or maybe you thought that it would make things more complicated in which case you would be right!) There are supposed to be two aides there; one for the husband and one for the wife. One comes in around 4pm and my nurse and the translator that we brought with us because the family speaks Russian went nuts. They ripped this girl apart and I felt sorry for her honestly.

They kicked her out, and then soon after the son came as he usually does in the evening to check on his parents. There was a lot of questions, a lot of over exaggeration. By the end of it all, my nurse convinced me that I should change the provider and put another one in. The family wanted this provider because they have aids who speak Russian. The translator we had was so biased against this agency. He did nothing but talk about how horrible they are. How they will use the consumers. For all I know he could be right but I have never worked with them before so I don’t really know. Still, I got swept up in the moment and I thought these people were going to die so I change providers.

You’d think the drama would be over. Problem solved maybe? Nope! I come in to work together expecting that we need to talk about this case but I did not expect that I would get a call from the original provider, some random woman who apparently loves this company, and the two sons all telling me that they want this company back in. I’m worried and I ask the nurse for advice. She says that we should go to the Director of the department and at this point, if I could go back in time I would have grabbed myself and sat myself back down cause this was a BAD idea.

Basically because we did not follow proper procedures, we are in the wrong for changing providers and if this is what they want, give it to them.

This one case took up my whole day. I think I had two calls that had to do with something else unrelated but everything else was about this couple. I just want to strangle someone. Or just have someone slap me. I should learn that I should speak up when I think things are getting out of control. I should learn not to let the nurse take the lead. I should learn that what the consumer wants, the state now says the consumer will have no matter the safety. It just takes one paper to make the our liability go away and if this family just wants so many hours, who are we to put more one them? Stupid, stupid, stupid on my part.

And that was my day.
