Sorry for the absence, but things kind of exploded at work. Long story short, my boss decided that she wanted to mix things up a bit in the office and told a co-worker and me to switch offices.
Buh? Rly?
So the last 2 weeks has been spent frantically getting my work to a place where I could not work for 2 days. This after a week of vacation where...no work was done. So I crammed 3 1/2 weeks of work into 2 (I was not a pleasant person during that time) and last week on Tues and Weds Jen and I packed up our offices and dragged them past each other up and down the hall. Guess who got to do all the heavy lifting and furniture dragging? Though, that did have a high moment when I just picked up the lighter half of my desk and did crossovers with it all the way down the hall. Everyone just stood and stared. My boss said "Did you really just do that?" I said "Eh, it's the hockey."
Well, that and the fact that I can bench press 75. But that's neither here nor there- I'm just trying to be strong enough to keep up with my 3 year old who is the size of a 5 year old. I'd rather be strong than skinny anyway.
So, Thursday was mostly spent playing furniture tetris as I tried to fit ALL THE STUFF into my new office and still have a workflow space that encourages actually doing the filing, which I hate, but failing to do so really messes up the workspace. Then, at 4 pm on Thursday, my boss comes in and says "I need you to write the company's responses to the rate cut study and the new standards for the waiver. They're due tomorrow."
Buh? Rly?
OK, sure boss. Never mind that I'm not actually an SLP, I just took some classes so I could understand wtf my employees do. Though, a lot of our response is to directly challenge the data they used and I swear my boss is afraid of numbers. The number zero, specifically, because quite frankly, my analysis of the proposed changes indicates that if both go into effect we will have to shut our doors. No joke.
So yeah, no pressure.
So in an hour, I did the analysis, wrote up the response for one of the issues, and went home via a place that sold wine. I'd earned it, thank you.
The first part of Friday was spent doing analysis for and writing the other response. My boss- who was in Phoenix for her son's basketball tournament- signed off on it and told me to take the rest of the day off with pay.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
So in my triumph I turned my attention to my costume.
Bubba in India has still not responded to my complaint through PayPal, so I've found another supplier of bare blades and am looking into tools to engrave it once it arrives. I was toying around with trying to engrave and enamel the stainless steel blade I had last year, but engraving stainless is a Pain In The A$$ without really expensive tools. So, I am going to wait until the dispute with Bubba in India has resolved and then order from this new supplier if he doesn't send my blade.
In the meantime, I am about to head to Home Depot to pick up some new chisels and have scoped out some gravers on eBay. Call me old fashioned, but I really prefer doing things by hand when I can. Elves didn't have power tools.
Oh, and I am filling out paperwork to establish my own company- Neroon LeatherArts. Providing custom designed and carved leather and metal works. Tell your friends.
