The Dragonlady and the refusal of standing orders

My landlady is French. Very very French. Her mouth goes a mile a minute, and she never lets anybody say anything. You really need to have ice in your stomache when dealing with her, particularly over the phone - which I had to do today. The story is that she had come by when I was out, saying that she wanted the rent in cheque form, and when given the information that 3 of us in the house can't pay by cheque she said that cash would be good. She did not want standing orders. Now, there are several reasons why I got quite annoyed; 1: I don't have a cheque book with my account, ergo I can't pay by cheque, 2: I refuse to pay by cash. I find it very unproffessional and it doesn't make me feel safe, even if I get a receipt. So I called her... Oh my god that woman can talk and I don't think I have ever been this firm and calm on the phone with anyone. I finally got her to accept my standing order but I have to give her the first rent in cash (and I will type up a very accurate and detailed receipt that she will have to sign) at which time she will give me her details. And then every month when she comes to pick up the others' cheques (I still don't know how the other two are going to pay her) I'll have to give her my bank statement showing that I actually have paid in to her account. A true dragonlady when it comes to money, although Olivia doesn't think it does her justice (but what is worse than a dragonlady?)

Right, that was my rant about that. On to more fun things.

I went out clubbing/dancing for the first time in ages - the whole house went out and we had a lot of fun. Think drinking games (horseracing with cards and Ring of Fire), and dancing the night away. Good night, messy night, but good night. I was actually still slightly drunk this morning. But seeing as I had to get up at 8 maybe that wasn't much of a surprise? The person who invented showers deserves a huge thanks though. Hot water = bliss.

The Freshers Fayre has been this week - and it has been immense! I was drowning in free stuff (spatula, strawberry condoms, mens deodorant, candy, magazines etc) and especially all the flyers that I've accumulated. But it has been so much fun! I stood in the stall for the Uni magazine, as well as the Ultimate Frisbee stall. Hopefully we got lots of freshers to both. Will definatly see at the first taster session on sunday - can't wait! Also saw TG a few times - who got me and my housemate to come along to a Dodgeball taster session...

Speaking of TG, I can't decide whether to avoid him. I don't want to, but everytime I'm near I just don't go past. And today I was going to the Ultimate stand and he saw me and stuck out his tounge kind of like a greeting - what? I have to figure out how to give him his souvenir I got him back home. I don't really like it (it's a big candy cane and I find it too sweet after a while) so I won't eat it if it stays here. My plan is to basically ask him over FB; "Btw, could you come by sometime when you're free? I got something for you. It's quite silly but I bought some stuff for people when the car broke down and I had nothing to do. Got one for Rachael, although the postage wasn't the best" And if he asks why I can't come over to his place I can answer that I don't know where he lives (semi-true, I know the street but not the number) and that I would probably come at a bad time.

Now I just have to figure out when I should ask him, so he doesn't come at a bad time. Pluck up some courage maybe?
