That bit of snow across the valley may be pretty, but also a little ominous. This was taken before the *Great Howling Windstorms of 2012* came through and stripped all the leaves from the trees. That same series of windstorms has also left us without power a total of 5 times since Sept 1st, taken down countless trees, and made taking down our State Fair booth a terrifying experience! Think 70MPH winds and taking apart a 20'x24' tent...eek.
Fall also means harvesting the honey from our hives. We got over 20LBs (woohoo!), so mead making with our own honey is a go! My husband also began his annual beer-brewing, which means spent-grain for bread and other baking. Im too nervous of bears(our property has been bear-central all summer) this year to do much in the way of berry-picking, even if the wind had left much on the bushes...so we'll probably pass on jam and jelly this time around.
We are getting ready this week to head back up North to Fairbanks for the yearly Bad Girls of the North art show. Crossing our fingers that the highway North will be passable, as flooding has been causing road closures and even evacuations along much of the 300 plus mile rout we normally drive.
