Goodbye to my beloved Abby

Apr 25, 2013 10:49

We had to say goodbye to our 14 year old Old English Sheepdog Abby yesterday. She had been sick for many months, and when she took a sudden turn for the worse, we made the painful decision not to put her through any more procedures, and to let her go.

My heart is breaking...she was a huge (HUGE) part of our lives for the past 9 years. We adopted her as an adult rescue after I had done an art commission (of Old English Sheepdogs) for the woman who was fostering her. Sheepies became *our* breed instantly, and we soon adopted a second one (Spencer) from the same rescue organization. Spencer was only with us a few years, as he was an older boy when we got him...so we then got our pup Eggbert, who Abby proceeded to raise, mother and bully into the wonderful well behaved boy that he is. She traveled all over the state of Alaska with us, doing art shows, camping, hiking, calmly facing wildlife, the general public and various strange environments with grace, poise and enthusiasm.. She will be deeply missed by us, and by the many customers, friends and other fans she collected over the years.
