Emerald City Comicon 2013

Hey guys! I really need to write here more often. Sorry it's been slow.
Emerald City Comicon has come and gone. First con of the year for me. It was a crazy, hectic weekend. Capped out at 65,000 in one tiny convention center. They really need to expand!! There were more people there than at last years DragonCon! And that spans over 4 hotels!! Met some amazing people, hung out with some great friends, met some great actors, some new cosplayers...it was an awesome weekend.
Got to see some wonderful friends form Georgia whom I haven't seen in well over a year, maybe 2. Yaya Han and Monika Lee. They are two wonderful, long-time friends of mine and I felt at home when I saw them. Got to finally meet Jessica Nigri and Riki (Riddle's Messy Wardrobe), both of whom are wonderful people and fun to chat with. I don't care what anyone says about Jessica Nigri, she is an incredibly sweet person and it was nice getting to talk to her for a few. Saw Victoria (Scruffy Rebel) for the first time in YEARS! We got to chat very briefly, but I'm glad she and her bf had a great weekend. And Al...so glad Al was there. It was like a mini-con family reunion.

Friday wasn't much. Got our badges, met Misha Collins (who is awesome!! and without the rush of a photo op we got to chat for a few minutes), saw some good cosplays already and just hung out with friends. It was nice and relaxing.

Saturday I wore my Kaylee "Firefly", Shindig dress. My favorite dress and costume ever. Within 30 seconds of getting inside the building I got stopped...and it never stopped. I love the attention that dress gets, but I also like being able to get from one side of the room to the other with minimal effort. But it was very well received, which made me happy. Talked costume construction with a LOT of people. That was fun. I should have made a blog about my process.
My friend Jessica wore, for the first time, an amazing, and probably the most accurate, Idiot's Lantern Rose Tyler dress. It was GORGEOUS! She got it commissioned from a friend in the UK. Holy crap, it was amazing. Just amazing. We were both two giant pink dresses shoved in the back of a Nissan Leaf. PINK EVERYWHERE! Met so many great people that day. So many memories. And changed out of Kaylee into The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances Rose Tyler in a parking garage. That was fun and not the first time I've changed out of costume in a parking garage. lol.

Sunday was photo op day with Misha Collins and Chris Sarandon. Didn't dress up. I was supposed to wear my newly finished Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite) costume, but my corset went missing all weekend. Hubby found it that evening, thank goodness. But it wasn't so bad. All of my cosplay friends didn't dress up either. Casual day! lol. But was fun just wandering around taking photos, chatting with everyone and just catching up with people.
Got to have dinner with Yaya and Brian before they went back to GA. It was fabulous. A perfect end to the weekend, too. We had pho. It was fast, cheap and delicious. Total comfort food. I miss them a lot already. Good friends and good food. Can't beat that!

I feel like I'm missing so much, but this would be a HUGE entry if I wrote out everything.

Next con will be Sakuracon in two weeks. I'll be working at Yaya Han's booth all weekend, so come see me there! I'll be wearing Elizabeth, finally, that Saturday. Not sure what else. If I can find my gloves I might wear FF: Advent Children Tifa. I'm not sure.

That's about it. Keep checking http://www.facebook.com/ravenmistcosplay for more info!!
Thanks!!
