i'll be making an art post momentarily-- the Alliance and Empire set of Star Wars Miniatures released today (in conjunction with a big tournament at the huge Star Wars Celebration convention in LA this weekend), and that was the one for which i did *all* of the concept art.
i'm prepping the files for a small selection of them, and will be uploading them to my website shortly. (i may end up posting a fair number of them, spread out over a number of days...) But in event that i don't get them uploaded before midnight-- i wanted to make a post to wish Star Wars a happy birthday on its actual birthday.
i remember making a post (on a message board, i believe. not LJ) a long time ago when i got my first assignment for the Star Wars RPG. Or possibly when i was working on one of my early assignments for it.
in the post, i was just taking a moment to reflect on my good fortune at having the opportunity to be directly involved in the Star Wars universe... to get to make my own contributions to the living, growing collection of talent and vision that is Star Wars.
I've been a Star Wars fan since seeing A New Hope when i was a wee kid. I collected the figures obsessively, as they were coming out-- an excited kid in the aisles at K-Mart, looking for whatever newly released figures were there, or sifting through the others to find the next "must have" from my list. I'm sure my parents were a little tired of my brother and me asking for another figure all the time.
my sketch book from when i was 6 has a number of Star Wars drawings in it. Not quite at the level i achieved working with WotC later, but at least they showed dedication, for a 6 year old. (i'll have to scan and post those some time...)
I was really pleased to have gotten to work on the Alliance and Empire set-- it being a completely "classic" set (with the upcoming 30th anniversary in mind), with all the figures being from the classic trilogy (plus a handful of Expanded Universe characters). I got to visit with so many of my favorites (and in all the research, i got to read and learn a ton about them, too! :)
Well, anyway, Happy Birthday Star Wars. It's been a great ride, and i look forward to another 30 years playing in your galaxy.
