Sooo ... no one warned me about Grad School and the importance of a Masters. Or maybe they did, somewhere in the background, but my disinterest deafened me to it. Either way, I apparently 98% need one to have any future in higher ed, admissions, advising, helping people be students, etc.
I have a little while to research and prepare before I'm unemployed in a year. And even after that, a lot of graduate programs seem geared towards people who've been in some field for a few years. Which is good, since at this moment I'm not really interested in doing any more scholarly research. And bad, since I'll need something to do next Juneish.
Any miracle suggestions to get me either into a job or into school for free are very welcome. Suggestions that I not worry about it because I still have about a year left of a great job are less welcome. That's not how I roll.
Other news: We've just interviewed and selected the next generation of lucky kids for the cheapest rent in the city. Seriously, I've looked, and I've never seen another place offering a room and a quarter of a seldom-used apartment for $255. Let's do the math: If I'd been paying $455 a month (a more reasonable, though still cheap, amount) since I moved here in November 2002 ... I'd have spent an extra $9,000. Ha! My years of superfluous spending seem suddenly justified!
