To almost plagarize Karl (orientation leader and asuw director of oporations or something): A contest is underway. I've been saying I'd like to see this campus become even more political and maybe this contest could be the catalyst we need ...

And your implication that this war is justified on the grounds that thousands more would have died, well that's tenuous. In some sense, of course, it is but a truism - thousands of people die all the time. But randomly attacking governments we disapprove of is a pretty lousy foreign policy. Especially when we can accomplish similar ends through other means. I don't consider myself "anti-war." I firmly believe that there are instances when war is absolutely justified (if always an evil, a necessary one at times). In this case, not so much. Saddam was fairly impotent. A cruel dictator? Sure. But the same can be said of Uzbekistan and in this "War on Terror" we've been sucking up to that tyrannous regime in exchange for bases. Let's not even start on the governments of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The point is, this administration can't use "evil governments" as an excuse while keeping a straight face.
And Iraq had no links to Al Qaeda. They were completely opposed to one another ideologically (I love the irony that women will likely enjoy LESS freedom after our "liberation" than under Saddam's regime). So the assertion that terrorist activity occurs, while possibly being true, has no bearing on the war in Iraq or OYE.

most of all, i hate it when people use terms like good and evil when talking about polotics. foreign affairs is not like saturday morning cartoons where it's the good guys against the bad guys.
will anybody ever experience more or less freedom thru war? or maybe it's just different.
i admit, i'm not as sharp about my polotics as you college kids but i try. mostly, i only know what i've seen on my tour thru the persian gulf and what i've heard from my friends in inteligence. it isn't much, but i would argue that it's more truthful than anything you'd see in the news.
or something.
