February Love Meme Day 2 - The Oracle Says....

Feb 02, 2019 11:03

I'm just a dabbler in Tarot and oracle cards, but I love the beauty of cards and the feel of flipping through them. I find some decks are meditative in effect, and I would probably over-indulge if I had the money. I don't consider myself a true believer in divination and the mystical world. But I do find it interesting when a gorgeous deck of cards meets tradition and possibilities...

Lenormand is a divinatory system apart from traditional Tarot, but it can be used alongside Tarot in a reading. There are no suits (Arcana) as in Tarot--instead, Lenormand decks contain cards that are seen as positive, neutral, or negative. Unlike in Tarot, it doesn't matter where a card lands in a spread; instead, meaning comes from the combinations of cards, adding layers of meaning.

There's a handy infographic comparing Tarot and Lenormand here.

The deck I bought most recently is Under the Roses Lenormand by Kendra Hurteau (Lenormand expert) and Katrina Hill (designer and digital illustrator). It is a Petit Lenormand deck with the standard 36 cards, plus extra Child, Gentleman, and Lady cards to swap out for a bit of racial diversity (I do wish there were more to add even more diversity). I love the Edwardian style, the art with the delicacy of watercolor/muted backgrounds with large vibrant line drawings and and color. I like the matte feel and that they are the size of playing cards--my hands handle them better than larger cards. The fairytale-ish images bring forth emotions for me and stimulate my subconscious.
