Stays

Yesterday was pretty good. After I posted my question about the reed, CJ and I had to do some errands, including going to the library. We dropped off some books and he played on the children's computer while I used some empty tables in the children's area to cut out pattern pieces of the prettiest pattern I own ( Ravenrook’s La Mode Bagatelle-Regency Wardrobe ). I cut out just about everything for the bodiced petticoat, and the two dresses, all except for the skirts while CJ looked around and played. It was good.
When I got home I found all of your wonderful helpful comments on the reed stays and started playing with that (watered the lawn too, the poor thing is soooooo brown). I got one side almost completely done (I'm going to put grommets in before I put the reeds in on the other side of them). Yeah, I'm still considering this a complete test corset/stays/thing, so if it works I can tweak it and do it out of nicer fabric and perhaps show it off if I get to an event, but not this piece, this piece is going to be strictly undies so I can go to the F&I event in garb on Saturday. I'm sorry, I can't go in just a shift, drawstring skirt and a bedjacket or "french bodice"... *twitch * If at least they were made to fit properly...Sorry, I'll get off my rant. I just find it strange to think that 18th century reenactor women may be some of the most garb snarky with the lack of research I see at events. Maybe the midwest colonial reenactors are less concerned with accuracy than ones on the coast (and I admit, grand encampment in Niagra a few years ago had some of the best outfits I had seen...and some with the most glaring inaccuracies...but anyway)
Next week I can work on the regency outfit, probably starting with the Past Patterns 19th Century Sensible Stays (View A), then going to the Bagatelle pattern from there.
Did I mention I have to work the evening shift tonight, and a full day tomorrow too?
Let's see if I can get the other side of these stays boned before work, then grommet and bind them tomorrow.
Oh, and I worked on Saturday, and we went to the beach on Sunday. :)
