Thoughts

When I was laid off from my office job about 8 years ago, I moped around the house and watched the entire Lord of the Rings (extended edition) Trilogy and every minute of the behind-the-scenes extras that came with it. There was an interview with Ngila Dickson, the costume designer behind LotR. She said something that rang in my ears. She was talking about making Galadriel’s “Mirror dress“, and she said something about using “the most glorious beaded fabric” they could find. I took that cue and put my resume in at Haberman Fabrics.

It’s one of those things that makes me smile, when I can play with real French laces, beaded and embroidered net, and it’s all part of my job. We have an awesome bridal selection, and a special room where we keep all the colored laces and beaded fabrics called “the Royal Room”.

Anyway, recently we received our latest shipment of amazing fabric that you won’t find at JoAnn’s, and in it was a piece that caused me to hear that phrase again “the most glorious beaded fabric”. This one isn’t white like Galadriel’s dress. It’s actually black netting embroidered and beaded in silver. But it’s GEORGEOUS. I took a quick snap of it with my camera-phone after Annie and I re-rolled it with tissue in-between the layers. *sigh* I love my work.
