Reconstructing History vs Margo’s Patterns

Dec 28, 2009 12:28

I’m just pissed off.

Reconstructing History patterns have never been “Great” patterns. They’ve been “Ok” at best. The sizing is horrible for the larger sizes, and when it says size X will fit size Y measurements, it really means size X will fit size V measurements. Ok, so I can live with fixing some of this stuff for getting the scaled up pattern pieces, and instructions, but then with the women’s Tudor patterns: 601 & 602 until the recent update, had horrible instructions, and NO pictures to help explain how to put the pieces together.

Usually I can figure things out on my own, but when the sizing is horrible and the straps are a bit confusing, it’s just frustrating to work with it. Then when the update did come out, they refused to give out any sort of update to those that already have the patterns ($60 in patterns by the way), simply saying that there were too many changes, you’ll just have to buy them over again. Excuse me? Money grubbing much?

Ok, that’s bad enough, then on the yahoo groups list, someone posted a list of “free” patterns and instructions, and the woman got her head bit off for posting something that was contrary to what Reconstructing History has. Ok, I can understand to a certain extent, but then they start ripping on Margo’s patterns. EXCUSE ME?!?!
They say that her patterns are too expensive and that they don’t like them. Um, no. Margo’s Tudor pattern has a crap load of historical notes, a BOOK of detailed instructions, and includes everything in both the Reconstructing history patterns, except for the farthingale, plus the Margo’s Tudor has hats and more options, and FABULOUS sizing. All this for $48, which is $12 cheaper than the RH patterns.

So in short, Margo’s patterns rock, Reconstructing history patterns generally suck and should only be used if you are really sure of what you are doing, and just need basic shapes, and maybe can find them on sale.
