The Red and the Blue

My birding goals this year (besides keeping track of what I see on our property) are a couple of species that are apparently common here but I have yet to see.

The Indigo Bunting and the Scarlet Tanager.

It's been wet and rainy the last few days, but I've been able to sneak an hour in here and there to bird the field and woodlot. I've discovered a Red-tail nest, complete with angry momma Hawk who screams at me every time I'm in the woods, nesting American Robins, several different species of Warbler passing through, a couple of Baltimore Orioles who frequent or orange slices (one in awkward teenage plumage), and something I keep flushing in the field, but can never get a clear look at before it's flown off. It's small, smaller than a Killdeer, with a longer bill, and seems to be built like a sandpiper.
