Back from the movie---and the damn roof again

Last night, I went to see Suicide Squad down at the Metropolitan Theater here in IF. I'm not normally much of a one for superhero movies (my own tastes in comics run more to titles like Usagi Yojimbo, Fables, and American Vampire) but I liked it.

I admit, one reason I went was to see Harley Quinn. I've liked that character ever since she appeared in the animated Batman, and I thought that Margot Robbie did her justice---sexy, funny, and batshit crazy. And in love, unconditionally and forever, with her "Puddin'." Some self-proclaimed feminists say they don't like the character because of that, and her fanservice-y outfits. Hell-o...Harley Quinn is supposed to be a villain! Anybody using her as a role model is dreadfully misguided, at best. I think of her as a dreadfully tragic figure, a person who's a living embodiment of one who loves not wisely, but much too well.

The other characters were all right, although I'm not as familiar with them (like I say, I'm not much into the superhero titles these days.) And Amanda Waller's question of what the hell they're going to do when, not if, someone deploys metahumans against the US, or some of them go bad, is still very good and pertinent.

The effects were good, the movie kept me entertained. On the whole, although I don't think it's a classic of the cinema, I'm not sorry I went and I may go see it again.

In other news, it's raining here, and I'm getting water in through the leaks in the roof. I've begged and begged and begged and begged for help, but to no avail whatsoever. I'm hoping to hear back from Habitat for Humanity, but they'll contact me when they contact me, and not before. If they'll help me fix the roof, that's all I really need urgently.
