WTF is wrong with this stuff?

Recently, in a search for software that I could use to download videos that preferably wasn't crawling with bugs, adware and malware, I found out that the nice Mozilla corporation had an add-on for Firefox that would do just exactly that. Since I've switched to Firefox as my default browser, that sounded like just the ticket, so I downloaded it and installed it.

And it doesn't work.

And I can't figure out what's wrong.

And I can't find a way to e-mail anybody at bloody Mozilla to ask for help.

And their stupid website's "help" is no help.

I'm getting distinctly peevish about this, not least because it's not the only software-based burr under my saddle at the moment. I long to be able to rip video from, e.g., DVDs and make videos of my own for Youtube and other sites...but I don't have the software pre-installed, and although I know lots of computer types, anybody I ask suddenly looks at me like the village idiot asked to solve a differential equation and says "Huh? Durrrr!" Considering how many million people post stuff on Youtube and other video sites, the knowledge of which software is best for this ought to be fairly widespread, I'd think...but I might as well be asking about the latest missile release codes at DoD.

computers, pet peeves, puzzlements, rants
