Stranded in Iowa...

Feb 05, 2010 19:25

I went out to start my car up today, and when I turned the key, all I got was a *click* noise. I don't have the skills to figure out what's wrong myself, nor do I happen to have anyplace sheltered to work on a car, so, perforce, I called the shop. They'll come by Monday and pick it up.

It looks like it might be the starter; I had some trouble getting the starter to start yesterday. If so, this is the second starter this car's eaten in about eleven months. At least I'm still going to the same garage, and the warranty should still be in effect from the last time (I blogged about it; it happened in late March of 2009, if memory serves.)

Between depending on a car and having to keep a wary eye on the weather, I often find myself stranded when I don't want to be. At the moment, I have noplace I want to be urgently, but I dislike the inconvenience of this sort of thing. I'd rather live the way the urban kind of Europeans or Japanese do, where I didn't have to have a car. This is also one of the times when I regret losing the Sunbird, since I only wanted to go in-town today and the Sunbird was just fine for that---a lot smaller and easier on the gas.
