chapter 12 of Earth to Earth (finally!)

Fanfiction.Net will not let me type a document label on anything I try to upload, and it will not let me upload without a document label. How fair is that, I ask you? *grumblegrumble* I may abandon my account there, much as it pains me. I'll have to join the ranks of all those authors who annoyed me by leaving FF.N and becoming all but impossible to find elsewhere. *sniffle* I guess I'll live.

Chapter 12 of EtE is finally finished and up at Eraser Dust:
Sleeping in Light

NOTICE TO ALL ETE READERS: For any curious minds out there, no, I have absolutely no clue how long this story will be or when it will end. I do know that, plot-wise, it’s barely even started. Therefore I’m very seriously debating whether or not to break my alternate-chapter pattern and let the plot start taking over more. I won’t abandon the in-between chapters; they’ll just be every third, fourth or fifth chapter instead of every second. I mean, I’ve barely even touched on the huge number of ideas I have for the in-betweeners, but I really do feel like they’re slowing the story down more than they’re worth. Any strong feelings one way or the other on this? If a majority of readers want the alternate-chapter pattern kept the way it is, I’ll be happy to do so, but if not, I’m very likely going to start making the change. Chapter 14 will be the first chapter to be affected by whatever decision I make, and my decision depends entirely on what response I get to this notice.

There should be some new art up at my gallery tomorrow -- I'll post links when I get around to it. And bloody hell, excuse my French, but bloody hell these chapter illustrations are taking longer than I'd expected. I swear, I am talented at biting off way more than I can chew. But now I've started it I'm gonna finish it, dammit. Same goes for the story itself.

MidSouthCon is coming up soon -- first weekend in April, in Memphis. (Anyone else going? Besides you, mom? Probably not, but hey, can't hurt to ask. ^_^.) Anyway, I always get on a costuming binge around time for a con and I feel the need to ramble about it a bit.

We went on a long car trip to a place called Unclaimed Baggage today (er, yesterday), where all the unclaimed luggage from airports all over the U.S. is put up for sale. (It's amazing what people manage to lose in airports, really...) They have a truly impressive range of types and quality of clothes... costume-shopper's heaven. I now have a lab coat (either Scully from the X-Files or Hatori Sohma from Fruits Basket, I'm thinking), a proper skirt to go with my Witch Hunter Robin outfit, and a pale yellow shirt that is hopefully going to be the start of a Spike Speigel suit. Also got other stuff, mostly things to cut up for the fabric and parts of other costumes that have been evolving for years. Like my Death costume (Neil Gaiman's Sandman version of Death, that is) -- it's always in need of new random goth pieces.

I'm thinking of doing a Kenshin costume -- I'd have the hair for it if mine weren't so curly -- or maybe Sango from Inuyasha. But those are just future possibilities...

Anyway, my big project right now is a book character -- Sabriel, a necromancer from Garth Nix's Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen trilogy. I have mixed feelings about doing a little-known book character, really... so few people will recognize it, but I really do love the character and want to put a lot of work into the costume. *sigh* Oh well. I'll be unique, eh? That's assuming that I actually get the accursed thing made, anyway. It's starting to look like it'll involve several months of work -- somehow I've got to get hold of a bandolier and seven bells, not to mention the phenomenally tedious job of embroidering a few thousand tiny silver keys on a surcoat. Woo hoo. By some miracle, I'm hoping to have it done in time for DragonCon this August. Yaaaaay, a black wig and about three layers of Medeival-ish clothes in Atlanta in August. *rolls eyes*

Must mend Vash pants in time for MidSouth. The belts are coming off and the knee armor is loose. Wish I had a better pair of boots. *sigh* Too late now.

Ahh, a good ramble always makes me feel better. ^_^. If anyone actually read all that, I applaude you.

How amazingly unlikely is your birth --
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth."
