I will never lose my ability to find cartoon characters attractive

Oh, Zuko. You're so drowning in angst, it should be awful but it's like deep-fried candy bar awful; it's 'please sir, may I have another?' awful. And I absolutely melt inside when you act like a well-intentioned idiot. I'm thinking that no matter what happens in the finale, just watching you ninjaing around and sucking mightily at being a good guy will keep me entertained for days. And to think, I was so thoroughly unimpressed by you for nearly a season and a half. (Well, that first season hair wasn't winning you any points.)

I briefly considered doing Avatar costumes, but I already have a Venture Bros. costume I need to be working on and I don't have the money for a shitload of new fabric, wig, shoes, etc. So to alleviate my craving to make something fannish for the show, I've started another Barbie reconning project. Will post pictures tomorrow, when I get more done and have more time. I have a black Ken for Iroh (skin tone to be lightened; the nose is the right shape, though, which is important) and just for the appropriate contrast of weights, I'm using a deboobed female doll for Zuko. He isn't as feminine as many anime men, but he would look very strange as a Ken doll. I wish there was more variety of ethnicities and body shapes/sizes in Barbies, but that'll have to wait for the day Mattel gets its head out of its plastic ass, which will never happen. So I work with what I got.

I've done Zuko's hair (current era, as in icon), eyes & scar. I spent all day today with a pair of tweezers, pulling the sewn-in hair off of the Iroh doll's head and then painting it over with liquid latex for the receeding hairline. I'll use the leftover hair from a different doll and spirit gum to recreate Iroh's hair from scratch. This is going to be the hardest part of any of it. (Not to mention fitting his costumes without messing up his "wig".)

I will never attempt to make a topknot in Barbie hair. Ever.

But the costumes should be easy; lots of simple kimono-style tops, loose pants and sleeveless tunics. Sweet.

I might also make Vash some pants, after a year of the poor doll being pantsless. But honestly, considering that it's Vash, he probably wouldn't care.
