Just in case I don't post in a while (or get on chat, or email, or make contact in any way, shape or form)...
I took my computer home over spring break. This is always a relatively major operation: I have a desktop Mac Mini, a 12-inch (I think) flatscreen monitor, and of course I have to take keyboard, mouse, power packs, all that fun stuff along with the major bits. At school: it ran fine. Got it all home: it ran fine. Got it back to school: it runs fine, but Built-in Ethernet is no longer an available option. It's just gone. Poof. Vanished into the ether, pun angrily intended. My ethernet cable, the glasses do nothing!
I have done everything I can think of. I have run every cleaning program under the sun. I have moved the entire operation into a different room to try a different wall port. I have done everything short of take the case off my computer and poke at its guts, which I think is the next step, actually, except maybe for calling Apple support. I don't really want to get a new computer, but I can't live without an internet connection. You know how sad that sentence just was? It was ten thousand times sadder because I meant it whole-heartedly and emphatically: I cannot continue to be fully functional in my daily life as it is without the internet.
I can connect to wireless in the dorm, just barely, and it's absolute shit and I think I've managed to make my Yahoo mail page load just once. It didn't get any further than that, lost the connection. I'm using my friend's computer for this.
I'm generally having a bad week, what with everything from bones to technology being broken, and it's only halfway through Tuesday. But. Anyway. If anyone has a magical solution to this problem, please tell me. Otherwise, except for time spent on my friends' computers, I am, for all intents and purposes, sans internet.
off to resist having a meltdown until I'm through the work week,
